I've never been a fan of Mosrite guitars. I always felt the bridge was too high off the body and it was difficult to play. Others find them to be good and I think it's just a matter of taste and style of playing. The Jazzmaster has always been my #1 choice for sure. It's been a long time since I used a Jag as my main guitar but I'm happy with it as a back-up. I'd actually go for my Strat over the Jag, though. It took me a LONG time to find a strat that I liked but once I did, man oh man! My Jazzmaster just feels like it's an extension of my body, and I'm just so comfortable with it, so it will always remain my #1. Matt "tha Kat" Lentz |

has anyone messed around with duosonics? i have a RI the 90s mim fender one not the recent squire, and its just a pure tone machine, sure it doesn't have trem but otherwise its killer —http://dinosaurghost.bandcamp.com/ |

Despite Teles not being an obvious choice for surf, mine is a surf machine now. Jazzmaster pickup in the bridge, surf 90 in the neck, flatwounds, and a very shallow break angle behind the bridge going to the Bigsby. — |

On the contrary, I think a tele is awesome for surf guitar, with a Bigsby of course... —Matt "tha Kat" Lentz |

I'm not the first here to post this performance by Amos Garrett of Sleepwalk on a Telecaster. I don't know how, but he doesn't need a whammy bar to make it sound like he has one. That's what comes from a lifetime learning to master your guitar. Bravo. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

Awesome performance! I used to fake the sound of a whammy bar on my telecaster by using the tone knob. Matt "tha Kat" Lentz |

That's how I've been ever since I got my Jazzmaster, but then I got the Mosrite and I've used it at gigs and I've never been satisfied with the tone or with my performances whenever I've used it. I'm much more familiar with my Jazzmaster, I know where I am at all times when playing it, it just feels right. I still really want a Jag though. —The Phantomatics on Facebook |

I'd say get an older Japanese model if you can. My Daphne Blue Jag in the picture used to be CAR and I changed all the electronics to AVRI and it rocks. All in all, I put about $600 into it. The AVRI Jags are great too, but I really like the necks on the Japanese models. Matt "tha Kat" Lentz |

I bought one, a '93, white in excellent condition for $80.00 with a Fender gigbag but at 6'3" with long arms the 22.5" scale made me feel cramped so off to Denmark through Ebay it went. |

I have a couple of MIJ '62 RI Strats for surf - one olympic white (to match my olympic white Jaguar and Mustang bass), the other a custom big gold metalflake (I wanted to pay tribute to Dick Dale, but didn't want the DD signature model because of the reversed headstock which I think looks silly) complete with Kenpo karate sticker. Lately I've been playing quite a bit with my Classic Vibe 50's Squier Strat. It takes me straight to Twang City. I go between that and a Classic Players Jaguar. These are my two favourite surf guitars. |
