Permalink Reverb tank replacement?

New Topic

Hi all,

I have a Carvin Belair 212 with a 4FB2A1B reverb tank. The reverb is pretty weak - I'm thinking of replacing the tank with something better (more Fender sounding). Any recommendations? Should I go with 4AB3C1C?

Thank you.

I want to hear Caravan with a drum solo.

Must be an older Carvin. I think the new ones are digital, aren't they?

Here's your answer. The link is for a pdf.

Correct - older model

Based on the pdf, it sounds like I need a 4FB3A1B to get more of a Fender (wet) reverb? Or can I put whatever tank I want in there as long as the input/output impedance matches?

So... bought a 4FB3A1B and installed it. I can turn the reverb up to about 50% before it starts this oscillating (sounds like a UFO, LOL). Anyone know what this is and how I can fix it? Thanks

You may have a microphonic vacuum tube. Ping each of them with a pencil's eraser while the unit is on to see.

Squink Out!

Ben, is the pan in a bag or screwed to the bottom of the amp?

Hi Gilette, it's screwed to the bottom of the amp, open end down as was installed previously.

I went ahead and ordered a Tuki reverb bag just in case, but will also check the tubes this weekend. I appreciate your feedback!

While I'm waiting for the reverb tank bag, I went ahead and put a small blanket over the reverb tank - oscillation went away. Case closed!

The reverb is okay - not the best, but gets better with a Topanga and Naga Viper in front. Thanks to everyone for their input.
