I don't think I've ever posted an original topic in the SG101 forums! There's a first time for everything!
I'm certainly no stranger to the surf genre, and I'm most certainly a fan (note my profile image is two question marks) - my husband is the bassist of The Mystery Men? and I've known my husband and TMM? guitarist,(The Mad Scientist on here), for almost 30 years. So, I know the sound, I feel the reverb in my bones. I know the shows, I know my guys, but being so close to it - I'd love to know how others describe TMM? (in 50 words or less - no pressure!).
Okay, so this sounds like an odd post right? Well, I'm submitting TMM? for consideration to perform at the annual Dragon Con Convention in Atlanta, and there's a space on the form asking for a Brief Description of their Act - in 50 words or less - Focusing on most current or notable information about the act, to inform & entice the selection committee to choose said musical act.
If you've seen TMM?, heck, if you've watched VIDEO of TMM? how would any of you describe and/or SELL them?

The Mystery Men? A band both mysterious and powerful, and whose power is exceeded only by their mystery.

The Mystery Men? provide an onslaught of Surf music that contains both noire and modern stylings. Their driving sound combined with both a high level of musicianship and unique and entertaining stage show make them one of the best and in demand Surf/Instro acts on the scene with accolades in the press and internet to prove it.
Or something like that.
My words: This band has always deserved more attention. They are always fabulous, entertaining and inspiring. When the world hears their new material I am confident that they will take their place at the top, where they belong with only the select few other acts that occupy that space, our adulation and admiration.
Cheers,
Jeff

I'm currently buried in the world of press/product releases so I just typed the first stream on consciousness that came to mind but....
I just think the world of these guys, their music and the band in general.
Cheers,
Jeff

Now I'm listening to Sonos Delirium, to be followed by Session Obscura. I need me a mystery fix!
I hope you guys can play Dragon Con. That would be so sweet!

These sinister and mysterious dark agents perform modern surf music consisting of a mesmerizing mix of interlocking melodies, dizzying dynamics, alternating power and finesse, all the while displaying jaw-dropping musicianship with a very unique and intriguing stage presence.

Dang, the above descriptions are a very tough act to improve upon. Here's my feeble attempt:
The Mystery Men? are five eclectic, experienced and passionate musicians who perform original, progressive rock instrumental compositions which defy being placed in a specific genre box. Is it "Surf"? Certainly not in the traditional sense, but their songs have that vibe that might transport your brain waves to Half Moon Bay, Mavericks or Waimea. Is it Punk? Nope. Punk invokes a different emotion within. And it's not Grunge, Hip-Hop, Jazz or Blues either.
No, the music of the Mystery Men? is part of a new movement within the instrumental music community that sprang from Traditional Surf into it's own, progressive, powerful, multifarious and highly listenable but as-yet-unnamed genre. It is almost impossible to describe in words, so give it a listen....We doubt that you will be disappointed.

Those guys aren't just a bunch of pretty faces; they took Expository Writing-101 and everything!
Seriously, good luck with getting the gig - them be some fine words up there from which to choose.

I listened to Sonos Delerium in honor of this thread and it was just as amazing as I had remembered it.
I think I wrote this before, but the last time I saw them live, at the Ancient Winds Madeira release party, they pretty much made me cry with joy. Alcohol may have been involved a bit, but I don't think so. What a band.

I had a very similar experience with the Madeira that night (some inebriates were certainly involved), and to think that someone had that experience watching us is staggering. Thank you so much, Brian!

I'm no wordsmith for sure, but here goes.
I knew that the Mystery Men were A really good band by hearing their cds.
But to see them live, they take it to a whole other level. The
Tight musical interplay between members. The dynamics of the songs are more in effect. And the full show is more on Display in a live setting with these guys.
