Why don't people post anymore Backing tracks? Are we out of them?

I agree, I would if I could make them.

There are all sorts of levels of backing tracks, including..

• One acoustic or electric rhythm guitar (will often do the job)
• Drum machine, guitar & bass.
• Live band

Nearly everyone has the equipment these days to do the first two. It's really good practice as well.

BUT, if you want a BT with all the bells and whistles then that's another story. The Atlantics have released a couple of BT CDs that have been well received and they are taken from the actual album minus the main guitar.

We often get requests for BTs for other songs that we haven't put out but the reality of doing so is not generally understood. It's takes time & money.. studio time, engineer, mixing, mastering, etc.

Helped me immensely when I started, and still is challenging.

I too feel that anyone who can do a quality BT, rather work on their music.
BUT,
If a band already has a multi-track recording, it would be easy enough to remove the lead guitar parts and render it for practice purposes only.
No remixing needed, no mastering needed. Just DELETE; RENDER;
Either from the original mix, mastered files or stems, doesn't matter.
If you already have it digitally, it can be an hour's work.
Even if it's not perfect, some reverb trails remain or it throws off the compression or stereo spread or what-not, for a backing track it'd be good enough.

BT's can potentially increase any band's popularity, make the listener seek out the original.
It will help take surf guitar playing to the next level, globally, and raise the genre's visibility. We want that.

Martin's always been very generous with his time answering my questions & his studio efforts providing backing tracks. Besides all the companion BT's I've bought along with the albums from Martin & The Atlantics work (wonderful stuff), I found a Midi-converter awhile back (can't remember which one) that let me bring Twilight Surfer (and some others) into an mp3, which my software handles better. Not all converters you find online are created equal, some do a junk job, so you have to search & find one that renders the most honest representation. Think the one I used was from PolySoft Solutions; free. Edited to add: There's another online one here.

Martin, if it's ok I can send the mp3 b/t of Twilight Surfer to you in case others would like it; you can be the judge of how accurately it rendered. (Wife loves that tune also, "lying on the beach music" she calls it.)

Yes, it's left in because it's part of the track. It helps fill the track in; some use it as well as a way to "flesh out" an idea conceived at home they might later bring to a whole band, who will then substitute their various skills/instruments.

I found that if I get what I'm after in terms of guitar tone/effects, lay in a few mixed-faintly-into-the-back echo'y supporting chords and it'll virtually disappear. Or a bright upstroked rhythm if you channel some reggae mon'. Considering the work involved in making these available I'm just grateful he does it.
