Permalink Best Mosrite pickup (custom) Replacement?

New Topic

Hello Everyone,

This is Ethertone, and I'm new to the forum. Glad to be here and talk about surf music, garage music, pickups, guitars and much more...

Actually, I've been trolling the thread for some time, and decided to join.

I have a Guild Starfire III (2014 reissue) which has the LB-1 mini humbuckers (same size as Filtertron pickups). I'm thinking of replacing them with Mosrite/Carvin type single coils. The idea of Mosrite pickups in a mahogany hollow body, combined, just fascinates me and warrants some attention.

I was looking at the M3 RH-100 replacements, and have actually emailed and talked with Matt a couple of times last week, but since then haven't heard any replies. I know there were some family health issues that slowed the business down, but should I still continue to seek M3? Someone mentioned in another thread that M3's attitude was "we get there when we get there".

I also read in another thread that someone had a 'bad' experience with Seymour Duncan CS Mosrite replacements. Also, Curtis Novak makes some nice ones, but if I want a custom pickup cover or mounting ring to fit my Guild, I will probably have to find another builder or supplier that makes custom parts, since Curtis doesn't make custom covers or mounting rings.

One of the main reasons that I inquired with M3 is that they're willing to make me custom-sized pickup covers and rings that'll be a direct drop in for my Guild Starfire III; however, communication hasn't been reliable, and I'm wondering who else can make me good, spot-on Mosrite pickups, without having to drill holes for re-sizing options.

I also sent an inquiry to MJS Custom pickups in Canada, still waiting for their reply.

What do you guys & gals think so far? Any experiences with any other winders/builders?

Cheers in advance.
