Always liked this song, have never heard it played live. I think the rub comes in double-picking the double stops smoothly and accurately. Apparently he wrote it in the backseat of his car on the way to a recording session.

I do Soul Surfer in a couple of my bands. This guy could really play! It's a non-stop cascade of playful and inventive riffs that never lets up. Hardest parts for me are that little descending part on the IV and the F riffs at end of the bridge. I have it sussed, but get it right live about 30% of the time.

Native of Youngstown Oh10 that John Fortunado. I shall pin him on the map as such.

In 1962, when most of us were trying to figure out how to formulate an E or Am chord, Johnny S. knew 7's. 9's, diminished chords etc., thus the reason he could easily play Soul Surfer.
He was a session guy who whipped my butt in the summer of 63 at the Riverside Armory. I recall sharing the bill with Lenny Angelo who wrote Take it Off, a kinda Peter Gunn tune. We all just stared in awe when Sedetta took the stage. He was so melodic-a real guitar player.
