The Surfteens version is very enigmatic to me.
An enigmatic "Moment of Truth"? A moment of falseness? A moment of ambivalence? I'm curious - in the music, or about it?
There's a couple of moments at the end of each verse, in the second part, or maybe it would be the refrain, where it almost feels to me as if a note or two were missing or even deleted (i.e., one moment in each repetition of the phrase), and also they just sort of end it, without much of a triumphant flourish, but I love the dull, brooding quality of their sound. So, I can see either reading ....
