Hey, DD is playing about 30 miles from my house in a restaraunt called 'Goodfellas' in Hampton, VA. Anybody elese going?

Im not a huge DD fan and Ive actually seen him a few years back (although I repressed/forgot about that show untill I found a ticket stub recently) but when I saw him I wasnt totally into surf like ive been the last year or so.

Im going mainly because I want to hear how his 2 showman's sound up close and personal. And he always has a rad drummer.

Anyway, if any of you local peeps are going pm-me.

Lates...

When I saw DD he only played a couple of surf songs (Miserlou, Taco Wagon) but his guitar sounds awesome playing anything. I just heard from Sam (bass) that they have a new drummer.

? What else does he play? Rock ballads?

Oh well, at least he still uses vintage gear like his amps and that '59 (or whatever) strat hes got.

goodfellas is a cool place to see him since they play outside on the back patio and no matter where you stand it's definitely up close and personal. i've seen him there twice and he's definitely entertaining. if i can find someone to drag up there with me i might go. carol

He also did Ghost Riders and Peppermint Man and then some bluesy stuff, an acoustic set of Mexicanesque songs, Stripper music (on the trumpet). Ifg I recxall correctly, some of it sounds like jamming. According to Sam he likes to keep it loose, playing songs differently on different nights, no set list either--whatever he feels like. It was very cool to see the Beast in person.

Rock yall please go see him!! you'll really enjoy the show!!! lucky yall are!!!!! peace

Everytime I've seen him he always does Let's go Trippin' and Esperanza (sometimes he'll do that one a couple times).

It is worth going, if for nothing else, just to hear that tone. Best show I've seen him do was when Dusty and Sam were backing him up. It was almost as if they inspired him to play harder, that was a good show!

I'll most likely go see him up here at the Birchmere.

I'll probably go to the Baltimore Rams Head. I saw him there last year and that place was rocking! Its a great venue and the crowd was very enthusiastic there, pretty high energy with Dick running all over the stage . Saw him two nights later at the Rams Head in Annapolis, which was a sit down type place, only tables and stage. Dick was definately not as in to it, though it was a very enjoyable living room type show, lots of 'stories'.
I used to see him at my uncles club down in Ocean City Maryland. Those were actually my first 'surf' shows, and really got me into the genre. That place was awesome, it had a real nice atmosphere, surf boards, palm trees, tiki torches, half inside, half outside, sun setting over the bay, blocks from the ocean....but I digress Rolling Eyes . Dick's is always an entertaining show!

Is that the place in OC that the Diamondheads played at once?

If it was Mellow Beach then yes!

I think that's it. Yep, the Diamondheads played there once and said it was a pretty good gig. Too bad it didn't last?

Yeah, He held on to it and then about 2 or 3 years ago sold the whole lot from coastal highway to the bay.....Was a cool place though...
