Permalink Info on shows in California?

I'm thinking of going out there from Wisconsin in July specifically to see the July Slacktone show, and hope to see the Boardwalkers the following week. Is there a good site that shows where all the shows are in California. I would like to see the Neptunes for instance, but it sees that their site isn't working right, and I can't find their page on myspace. It would be great to see Slacktone, the Boardwalkers, the Mermen, the Phantom Surfers, the Surf Kings, Davie Allan, the Sandals, Jon & the Nightriders....... but I would probably have to stay several months to see them all. Also, I'm guessing some are no longer together (I talked to Sam of Slacktone last night at the Dick Dale show and he said John (Jon?) Blair is having back trouble). Who knows... maybe I would get out there and what to stay out there.

Empty Glass,
ok here is the deal, alot of bands are bad at promoting themselves.
dont put on website, or their myspace, dont send out e-mails, dont post on sg101, etc etc... and people wonder why surf is a strugleing genre.
sometimes I hear about shows after they happen.

so if I were you, I'd pick a week/weekend of shows such as the Pier show at HB with Slacktone, and one or 2 of the baja cantina shows on the wed. nite before and after that. I'm sure that there wil be other night time gigs around the weekend of that pier show.
so e-mail me as it gets closer and I will fil you in on whats going on
bar show wise around the time that you come out.

I have to concur with BTD.

Aug 5th at Pier Plaza the Eliminators, the Fabulous Nomads, Outer Wave, Slacktone, Boardwalkers & Pollo del Mar will be playing. All in one show...

You got it all in one show. There will be likely be more shows scheduled in the area between now & then. No way you can go wrong. Just stay tuned to SG101, plenty will pop up before then.

I'm going to take my first stab at video taping & uploading that day. Hopefully I will get some decent results. The big IF is if I can figure out how to upload from my camera & do some minor editing.

There is a lot happening around July 4th. Dusty's 50th bday bash at Suzy's with Slacktone, The Longboards (from Spain) The Pyronauts, and us (The Detonators). The next day the Pyronauts and the Longboards will play again and the HB surf museum.

I am sure there are a bunch of other shows as well around that time.

Here's where I check for California shows.

Jamie's site is good for that bands that she likes, and will promote.
but that is far from the be all end all of shows that happen.

I look at it, but I usually always know about those shows listed,
unless they are Nor. Cal shows.

I was talking to Rob Woolsey (Detonators and Billy Blastoff) a few days ago, and he told me he was hosting a big show at Suzies for the Memorial Day weekend.

BTD - do you know any of the details?

Hey Jeff,
Adrien and I started the Surf Stomp 5 years ago but this year I have been really busy and he did all the work on his own this year. We are just showing up, playing some tunes and giving away some swag for a good cause.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks for all your help... I'm leaning towards coming out the first week or two of August, as that August 5th show seems like it would be killer. Is the bus system good for a Midwestern country bumpkin like me? I was looking at staying in Fullerton as I assume that Anaheim may cost a little more. I've been to the Los Angeles area (about 9 years ago) in a car, but I really don't want to drive 48 hours one way so I can sit in rush hour traffic again. Sad

Scratch Fullerton... Hermosa Beach would probably be better.

You are going to want to have a car & stay close to the beach. Why not move around a bit & stay close to whatever show you are seeing for a night or two. You don't want to take the bus around here. Stay close to the gigs you plan on attending.

Things to consider, It will cost you around $300 each way for gas. At that price you could save money by flying & renting a car here. A Comfort Inn in Anaheim or Fullerton will be very close in price to one in Huntington Beach. When you figure in the price of gas and the agony of navigating via multiple freeways the price of staying close to you venue vs commuting is a wash.

Milwaukee to SNA in Orange County $273 round trip on Delta. Less than half the cost of gas if you drive. More than enough left over to rent a car. And no cost of a motel while on the road too & from. You save money by flying.

Then there is the consideration for what to do before or after the after the shows. The beach or Harbor Blvd in Fullerton? It's a no brainer.

There is a Motel a few blocks from me here in Anaheim.
Its about a half hour to 45 min drive depending on traffic.
Its called the Polynesian, not very tropical actually, but Tom and the Neptunes guys stayed there recently, I think its $55 a night.
Not gonna find much cheaper than that, and if you did, you wouldnt want to
stay there (i.e. crack motel)

I have a final thought on where to stay for the HB show.
There is a Comfort Inn on Beach Blvd in HB. The Internet says $80 a night. That included breakfast & wireless Internet. 10 Min drive to the Pier.

There are several Best Westerns in HB. The closest is 3 blocks from the Pier at 8th & PCH. You can walk to the Pier. Its about $110 a night http://arestravel.com/856_hotel-info_h1353.html

This place is $89 a night, its by the beach, 10 min drive to Pier http://reservations.beachcalifornia.com/1066_hotel-info_h1428.html

This place is also walking distance to the Pier, $89 a night & across the street from the beach. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32513-d119447-Reviews-Sun_n_Sands_Motel-Huntington_Beach_California.html

It is just clean enough to make it a screaming deal!!!

Walking distance from a BIG strip club....

5 stars baby!

THe NEpTuNeS

Wow... gracius, danke shoen, irrigato, merci and thanks.

If I were to pick something it would be the Sun and Sands. I drive by it every day and it is right on PCH. Not the classiest but right on the water and clean. A lot cheaper than the Hilton Resort down the street at $350 a night.
