Permalink Musical goals for 2016?

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

I'm rediscovering my first musical love...the bass. I picked up a cheapie used Precision and I'm using the Classic 101 list to build repertoire. I'm trying to get a new song under my belt every few days, and so far it's a blast getting inside of tunes this way.

Just wondering what others hope to accomplish musically in the new year?

Write an original song not-later-than the 2016 comp submission.
(This involves something of a Josey Wales-esque "endeavor to persevere" kinda thing. Don't know if I'll declare war on the Union when finished but might wish I had.)

Investigate if there's anyone in the area (or surrounding woods) to jam with.

In support of working on a couple other techniques, stretching exercises for my left pinky (and try not to do anything stupid again with my right wrist).

My goal is to finish at least 10% of the tunes I start.

Another, much more realistic goal, is to improve the quality of my recording (and to hopefully drop the anxiety thing where I forget how to play the moment the red light comes on).

I'd like to revitalize my band (which involves finding a steady bass player!) and get some more gigs (which involves emailing a bunch of folks who tend not to reply). but if I can do 1 & 2, then fun & profit will follow!

I want to start playing and writing again, and then get my projects started. Old commitments need keeping, and new ones are waiting. I hope I can start soon.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Write, record, repeat.

I'm learning Travis style fingerpicking. I went to a Gretsch guitar roundup and all these pickers made me feel emasculated as a guitarist. It's an uphill battle, but I'm already seeing some results.

Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF

  1. Get my band to at least play a couple of Shadows tracks in our set (they are at the nodding stage, so I'll let you know after the next rehearsal)
  2. Start second band that will play instrumentals.
  3. Write more tunes

x12 if we have our way!

-Write an original. The guitarists are working on some, but I'd like to write one of my own.

-Gigs. Many, many gigs. Maybe even some that involve us earning money.

-Record. We've talked about going in and recording a demo to hand out in hopes of making the second goal listed happen.

1) Help Jim (Colby) out more with the 2nd Agent Octopus release.

2) Do a solo EP with 4 originals and post to cd baby.

3) Move to North Carolina and start a new surf band on the Wilmington coast (this one falls into the "perchance to dream" category. Yes

As always, it is to become a better musician. Lots of listening and practicing.

The Ventures have a rather large catalog.. I'm on my way to playing more of their catalog of tunes that you typically do not hear. There's lots of material. Should keep the Mosrites played and me happy playing them.

J Mo'

More songs recorded and more gigs.

John, you should include some more Los Straits numbers in your practice regimen - this one with your son on bass sounds very nice! (I believe the first time for your son playing in public?? Very, very cool!)

Just play. 2015= 0 play Crying

1 to found or create a surf band for playing in
2 work hard my guitar and becoming really good then i could play all the song i like even the real harder and speed one (total utopy)

I like the idea of using the top 101 as repertoire. I might give that a shot. My goal is to finish some songs and have enough material (original and covers) to play shows. Other goals are to figure how to practice efficiently.

Work less, make more music (probably more of a wish than a goal)
Find a drummer for our band
Continue to grow as a musician, especially in the harmonic realm of things.
