GREAT dark version of Silent Night!! Love it! Excellent tone, too! (What kind of Strat is that?)
Thanks! It's a 20 year old Chinese Squire of which only the neck and body survived. Still, it's better than the 1979 Strat I had before this one. The rest is all boutique stuff and a custom flake paint job. Grey bottom pickups for the thumping dark tone. I named it Blue Bazooka.

My son's friend gave me this. Horrible music, but it definitely put a smile on my face.

I got the "Birth of surf Vol III" CD, and Tom Wheeler's great book, "The Fender Archives: A Scrapbook of Artifacts, Treasures, and Inside Information". Color me happy!

Congratulations! That's a great book, one of those you just want to spread out on the living room floor from time to time, or reach for when you're trying to recall some nugget of information.
Merry Christmas!

I got the "Beatles Gear Ultimate Edition" which has some cool pix of the early Beatles playing through a blonde Fender back-line in Hamburg '62-'63. -Marty

Some crazy "muscle memory" from c.20 years ago.
My band are discussing doing a few instrumentals with the emphasis on our audiences here in the UK recognising them and them being upbeat. So obviously The Shadows were a starting point. With some time on my hand on Christmas Day, I took the guitar out and flew through "Footapper" and "Shindig"; songs I've not played since I was in my 20s. I was pretty shocked to say the least. Does this often happen to people? It was like I was possessed. The chorus of "The Cruel Sea" has suddenly hit atomic speed too.
In other surf news, my friends' 7 year-old son declared he no longer has three favourite bands he now has four. Joining The Jam, The Clash and The Specials are...Satan's Pilgrims! He loves them.
And...I have a friend who is an excellent guitarist and singer. Although he is a Mod, he used to be in a house-band up in a bar in Soho, London playing surf and other instrumentals. I asked him what tunes they played; now you must imagine a London accent, rather like Michael Caine...
"Apache, Wonderful Land, a bit of Dick Dale, a song called Badger.."
"What? Badger? Never heard of it."
"You must have...Badger by The Astronauts"
"Do you mean Baja?"
"Is that how you pronounce it?"
"Yes."
"Well f**k me! Still. Nobody's going to know are they? It's not as though we singing it."
