That is great news! Is the book in the proofreading stage now? Smile

Wow, I have absolutely no idea what this post was about...

Killer! Definitely looking forward to this.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Looking forward to this with keen anticipation.

Just followed Jonpaul's link to Bob's FB page, and thought I'd help give this thread a much needed bump (after stumbling upon this thread thanks to Jonpauls link to this in yet another thread). According to a response on a comment regarding getting a copy of the book: "the book is in layout now. I will be sending out the cover to be done soon. Finally Bob." This was posted as of April 11 of this year.

Not confirmed yet, but I am hoping to get Bob Dalley to come to the SG101 convention in August, and maybe get up and play a few songs.

I told him, If the book is ready, to please bring it,
as it would probably sell like crazy.

Jeff and Bob, really cool if it works out!

Doing some google searches about the 3rd edition led me to FB where the book's page has this update:

Bob Dalley/Surfin' Guitars wrote
"I just want to let everyone know that it looks like we have decided to make Surfin' Guitars 3rd edition availabale in three different ways. E-Book, and print on demand (printed copies) on line in color or black & white through Amazon. I will keep you updated as we move along. Thanks to all of you for your support. Bob"

That was back in the summer (June 24, 2012). There's nothing useful showing up in Amazon searches, just fairly expensive previous editions for sale. Any one know anything more?

Sounds like Bob is reaching 15% of his FB subscribers. I hadn't heard this. Thanks for the post!

As you can see, he doesn't post much unfortunately.

What is FaceBook? Don't ask. I have seen only minimal traces of Bob there, however, and I suspect he is just busy with life.

Hello all. I just got an email from Jeff Hanson that I should post an update on the 3rd edition of Surfin' Guitars. I was quite surprised to see this thread about the book. I really didn't realize that there were this many surf musicians here who knew about the book. Just to let you know I do have a Facebook page on the 3rd edition of the book and one on the Surf Raiders for those interested. As it stands at this moment the book is still in layout, when I will be done I do not know. But I hope soon. Besides the bands that were included in the first two editions, there will be 9 more in this edition. They are the following: Velvetones (Mr. X) New Dimensions, Surf Teens, Manuel & the Renegades, Teenbeats, Rhythm Kings, Trademarks, Zorba & the Greeks, and the Newport Nomads. Many of the stories have been updated with new information, hopefully the bad grammar, spelling errors and such have been eliminated. The second edition took care of most of that. I am good at research but I never claimed to be a good writer. In fact originally (and John Blair may or may not remember this) After I had the first couple of stories I did appeared in Goldmine Magazine, I did offer him all my contacts so he could do the book. But he declined. All I had to work with was a IBM Selectric typewriter. I had no knowledge of how to put a book together etc so maybe that is why it took 8 years to get it as far as I did. When I did get it done, I tried to get some publishers interested in it, there were no takers, so I did it myself. I was embarrassed when the errors, bad grammar and such was pointed in reviews but it was the best I could have done at that time. I appreciate everyone who did enjoy the book, It might not have happened if I had not published it first in 1988. I will try to keep everyone informed on any progress. The only thing I can think of would to be go back and eliminate any reference to the Beatles ending surf music in all the stories if that would be better. If anyone wants to get a hold of me my email is bob@dalley.org I am proud to me in the company of you surf musicians, you have keep it alive and it will never go away again.

Bob, I have been waiting for this ever since I first heard about a forthcoming new edition here on the forum. I missed a chance to buy the original years ago at a guitar show when it first came out, and have regretted it since. You can count me in for a copy as well!
