Using Delay w/ a Reverb Tank

Hey everyone. I was wondering how you get a good mix of delay when using a reverb tank, without over saturation of the sound. I currently have an Ibanez AD-9 Analog and a Gomez G-Spring or a 63 Fender RI. When and how to use incorporate delay? Is it something you keep on subtly in the background or something you use at times to differentiate your sound? what are reasonable settings I should experiment with? Thanks! I've used it different ways (before I got an echo). Sometimes a simple slap to simulate more drip when I don't want to turn up the tank's Tone knob. Others I've used successfully would be what I consider much-longer-than-true slap interval, then turn the repeats up to get about 3 of them, and only about 9 to 10:00 on the typical mix knob. It will blend with the tank which will smooth out some of the sharpness of the individual repeats. Another thing you can do if using multiple repeats in something intricate is to have the tank's Mix up a bit more than normal. Not alot, but you can usually hear pretty well the 'tone suck' point on the dial. On my '63 RI this was anything above 4; on my Gomez it comes much higher (but it's a different animal & responds much smoother). This rolloff of the bass helps the delay repeats be more subtle & not get in the way of subsequent notes you're playing. (I apply this to approach to my El Capistan echo as well where you can specifically dial in some low-end rolloff - thanks Ivan. I don't have my Carbon Copy anymore, my vintage Arion is near yours in terms of available delay time so that's what I'm basing it on. The Arion has been with me a long time; just a great analog delay, not trying to pretend to be an echo, kinda like your AD-9. Turn knobs, have fun. I have a G-Spring and I am using a Belle Epoch these days. I own a Boss Space Echo and JHS Panther Cub but don't use those as the Belle Epoch is perfect. For surfy stuff, I use it with very minimal repeats. I don't want to hear a single repeat, I just want to fatten up the sound. I use the El Capistan and my best surf settings with the tank is where it slaps but is instinguishable as echo. It just gives more depth and fullness to the overall reverb and tone. The difference is that, since I can rolloff the low-end at the pedal, I'm free to do the opposite with the tank & set it how I really want, sometimes with the tank Mix dialed back. )
