Laika & The Cosmonauts played a free concert last night in Helsinki together with 22-Pistepirkko.
Much is going on there because of the hilarious stupid European Song Contest.
They played a 45 minutes set in the open air.
Among the tunes: N.Y.´79, Fadeaway, Global Village and a Hitchcock medley of themes from Psycho and Vertigo.

Heard it from someone who was there. He said: that surf guitar sound is just irresistable.

I figured you all wanted to hear they're still doing fine.

I have fond memories of Laika & C.. A few years back, after their set at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ.. for the comradery of a beer, Mikko Lankinen, the lead guitarist, wrote the intro to 'FLOATING' for me on a cocktail napkin. I still have it. Hope they make it back here sometime soon.

Good to see they are still up to something. Would love to get a chance to see those guys in the states.

Laika and the Cosmonauts have a new MySpace page.

I am so glad to hear they are still a band. I saw them with Ministry and the Jesus Lizard back in...oh...'96, I think. I think i've been hoping every day since that they would come back to the states (I think they have, just not back to Houston though).

'Instruments of Terror' was the CD that got me into surf rock. It was the only CD I have ever bought without hearing the band first...the CD just looked like it was something I would like. Here I am, 12-13 years later, rockin' out to surf music!

They are cool! first non-60's surf music i ever heard " and suddenly you run"

So god damn jealous....I love Global Village.

They really need to come to states. I'd fly to another part of the country to see them.

Science friction burns my fingers.

I asked Jari, my Finnish cyber friend about pics.
These were the audience seats, in the sunshine!
Pretty cool eh?

Wow. I love L&TC. I really hope they come to the States again...I'd make a trip to see that.

One of my all time favorite bands! I hope to see them on the west coast one day. When I put together the between set music for Surfin Sundays at the HB Pier a few weeks ago, I of course included Laika's version of Baja-Ree-Bah! They rocked the pier even if it was in absentia.

I missed their tours in 95 and 96 but saw them around 2000 or so.
they played Rhino records in Westwood, then I saw them at the surf museum and at the Doll hut. with Agent Orange, too friggin cool.
I was going out of my mind at all 3 shows.

I too really like Laika &.... "Instruments of Terror" was the first one of their recording I heard, and to be honest, it took me a while to warm up to it. Now they are among my faves, especially the "Local Warming" disc.
