One of the best modern Rautalanka/Shadows style bands ever - soooo good! Listen to that lead guitar tone! And on a '70s Strat, no less. Matti Luhtala is simply a master of that style of playing, right up there with Colin Pryce-Jones of the Rapiers (UK).
Enjoy!

Here's their version of Siboney live, really nice.
(Siboney and Country Sinister both come from their most excellent '90s album "Going Doing" - pretty much my favorite Shadows-style album of the '90s!

I'm a big fan of Rautalanka and The Mustangs in particular!
We had a discussion about Matti's unique guitar sound here
Siberia is my favorite song. The sound of the guitar is nothing I heard before!
Cheers,
Mark.

I love the music of the Mustangs too. Several albums of theirs can be heard through Spotify, and the sound is excellent. Their most recent recordings through Spotify seem to be ten years old.
For live performances I aim for a similar tone, with stacked delays of different times as the core effect. At a recent performance I was thrilled when an audience member who came from Europe said "you sound just like The Shadows." You can hear my stacked delays in the Insanitizers' "Irish Washerwoman" recording in the 2015 SG101 MP3 compilation.
Under the band name Mustangs Spotify also includes albums from an American vocal band that is entirely different. The same problem applies to the Spotify listings of several other Rautalanka bands, including the Regents and the Steelers.

Rautalanka music is a personal favorite and The Mustangs are one of the best. Another that impresses is Eldanka, a more modern group that has been mentioned here before. My limited knowledge of them is from videos. Not been able to find any CDs or records.
Speaking of, I found a various artists double album from Castle Records in the late 80s titled Rautalankamuistoja-Kitarayhtyelevytyksia Vuosilta 1961-63. The album has 36 very good instrumental songs. Does anyone know if it was issued on CD?

A little off topic (no Mustangs), but if you search "nastola rautalanka " on youtube you'll find tons of videos from an annual rautalanka festival in Finland. Example

Just ordered their collection CD from Double Crown; their rendition of Two Guitars is spooky good. The rendition you posted Ivan was a "close eyes/channel Hank" moment.
Thanks!

How strange! I was only having a YouTube Finnish guitar fest on Friday night. Some great bands, The Mustangs and the Quiets being particular favourites.

Thank you very much Carol for that link. Been going down a Rautalanka rabbit hole lately. Tasty stuff.
And in case he's gazing in from across the pond, thanks Ron for all the insights into The Mustangs, including the various echo units.

Thanks from me also for the link. Been trying to put together an order since your post but not succeeded yet. They are slow to respond. It may be due to the size of the order and availability. They do have several selections that include The Mustangs.

Today I got the Mustangs' DVD "Live at the Sunhouse" (the package also includes the "Live In Amsterdam" CD). Checking it out right now - and it's a true pleasure! It plays just fine on a US TV system. The picture is so-so, mostly a single camera focused on the lead guitarist Matti Luhtala (not at ALL a bad thing!), but the sound quality is phenomenal! And the band is on fire, sounding truly excellent. Highly recommended! I got the DVD about 10-14 days after ordering, too, a quick turnaround time.

Perestroika is an epic tune from Matti. Some guys in the midwest should cover that...

Thanks IvanP for the tip on the Mustangs' DVD. That plus a bunch of other items are on the way from SamSam Music.
Thanks FritzCat for the link to the Nastola Rautalanka Festival in Finland. I have watched nearly all of the videos and highly recommend them to anyone interested in Rautalanka. Definately a festival I would like to attend. Actually considered a trip to this and the Surfer Joe Festival since they are only a week apart. The planning seems so complicated. The Atlantics did both in 2013, so I see it can be done. The Atlantics' show is one of the videos btw.

Ditto; I watched it yesterday. Matti has a bit of that young (baseball player) Ted Williams thing going on. Kind of aloof & just lets his bat or guitar do the talking. And real humans dancing sometimes. Really cool show.
