I produce a single channel amp with switchable modes, based on the famous vintage fender 6G6-B blonde 1963 Bassman. Imagine cutting off the "Bass" side of the bassman amp, an amp originally created for the electric bass guitar. We know the story so why hang onto the "bass" side of it.

The Blondeshell '63 is the normal side of a bassman, and I've added a simple tube spring reverb to add ambiance to the dimensional sound of the historic 6G6-B tone. (if you want your "Surf" verb you can have that too with my F-Bomb reverb tank) In addition there is a switch that gives you
the choice of "F-hole" or "Plank". The F-hole mode is leaner, with a bit less gain for use with Big Hollow or Semi-hollow body guitars with filtertrons or humbuckers, and for guys that like putting a space echo or preamplifier between their guitar and amp. The Plank mode is a fatter version of the standard normal channel and its slightly added beef is perfect for solid body slingers and lovers of big bobbin single coil instruments. The Blondeshell 63' also has an external bias adjust and bias test points for you change your power tubes whenever you want from the spec'd Tungsol 5881 small bottle pwr tube, to the brawnier 6L6GC STR or 7581 power tube. No need for an amp tech, just a digi multimeter and screwdriver and you can get swap happy.
The amp was designed for me, to give me all the things I wish my original 63' bassman had. It was born on the stage, where I gig weekly with my band and is a faithful, rugged amp I can depend on. My original bassman has been retired after nearly 20 yrs of faithful service, although it is still played daily and used to test every Brain preamp pedal I make. more info available on my website here:

a second facade is available as well as a 1x15 combo version

Got a new version coming out, a little off the beaten path but the obsession w vintage blonde fender bassman 6G6-B is always there!

The Bettie Blondeshell is almost ready for release.. This is the Power section of the vintage Fender 6G6-B Blonde Bassman , and an injection of prewar gibson tweed Octal tube in the front end.
This combo has
an 8" tonetubby hemp cone alnico AND a 12" WGS Veteran (an american built Vintage 30).

Pwr Section comes w Tungsol 5881 but will accept all 6L6 pwr tubes, EL34 pwr tubes, and can handle JJ 6V6(a higher pwr'd 6V6).

To keep the same response from the phase inverter that the 6G6-B is know for, I am using a 12ax7 but the preamp tubes are 2 NOS 6SQ7 RCA metal envelope (while my supply lasts.)

Switchable master volume (pull on, defeated otherwise),

It has a two position rectifier switch for Solid state like the 6G6-B has,
and Sag for the earlier tube rectified 6G6 blonde.

Mids scoop switch,

Plank/F-hole switch,

Bias test points and bias adjust.

4oh and 8ohm spkr outs

It has a two position rectifier switch for Solid state like the 6G6-B has,
and Sag for the earlier tube rectified 6G6 blonde.

I always thoght that the Bass channel was the best sounding channel of the two. What did you not like about it?

HEY THERE, HI THERE, HO THERE !!!!

The bass channel isnt bad but the real treat of the 6G6-B is the normal channel w most of its sound coming from the pwr section of the amp, particularly w outboard preamps like a tube powered 6G15 or better yet (IMO)a roland re301 space echo.

When you crank up the presence, it pulls out the negative feedback, the headroom lowers and the amp's response becomes more dynamic by the players attack when there is a preamp in front. More so when the treble control sits in that magic spot of its tapped pot around 5-6. The lows stay clean and woody but the high mids will clip when pushed.

Simply plugging a guitar direct to either bass or normal channel alone, means a guitarist will choose the bass channel, its preamp side has one more preamp tube. That said, my amps have a "Plank" mode and "F-hole" mode, when engaged gives a guitar direct to amp response much like playing in the bass channel of a 63' blonde. I didnt ignore that completely, I just focus on the normal channel that I love since my pedalboard I gig with is "involved" Smile
