Permalink Rose Pickups - Now for Jaguar and Jazzmaster!

New Topic

I was browsing the newly updated Rose Pickups web store and saw that they now have pickups for Jags, Jazzmasters, and Teles. Anybody tried them? If I didn't already have Pure Vintage 65's in my Jag I'd give 'em a shot.

For those NOT in the know...Ken makes OUTSTANDING pickups at great prices!
I have a custom set in one of my teles that sound better than the Fender Custom Shop ones in my other tele.

Well worth a look.

Our other guitarist bought a used Strat with DiMarzio pickups and was not happy with the tone. We did some research and found Rose Pickups. The price was right so he swapped out the DiMarzios with Rose American Beautys and now that guitar sounds as good or better than any other Strat I've ever heard. I'm thinking of doing a Jazzmaster build, if I do I'll definitely be ordering a set of their pickups!

I use Rose Mariposa pickups in two guitars at bridge position. They have an unusually wide range down to low bass and high treble. If your guitar tone control covers the bridge pickup to adjust treble down (as mine does) this pickup is an excellent choice for surf, twang, and western (as in country western).

For rock I prefer a pickup with more upper-mids such as a DiPinto, Carvin, or EMG SA single coil.

Mariposa is the only Rose pickup I have used. Rose identifies the Mariposa as their most popular. They make many other pickups, including some that claim to give a jazzmaster sound to strats.

Squid,

Which AlNiCo alloy did you choose for your Mariposa p'ups?
Ken Currie wrote about the 2 and 5 alloys thus:
"AlNiCo 2 is warm, with a balanced freq from top to bottom... If you were to play a chord, the sound would blossom... AlNiCo 5 it would be crisper, with a more defined low end and high end..."

I am pondering purchase of his not-at-all overpriced p'ups for a NAFTA(1992 MIM) Strat I bought yesterday at Goodwill (!) the guitar is is pretty good shape except the pickups look to be some "import" junk with bar magnets parallel to the back ends of pole ends, which indicates that they are just steel not permanent magnets. I don't even want to find out what the extant p'ups sound like...
