Permalink SPIDERMAN 1967 background music!

Great 'thread' idea Norm! I used to watch these cartoons too as a kid in the same era. I remember how the music so effectively captured an eerie sense of vertiginous and vacant urban 3 dimensional spaces haunted by menace. Pictures and music fuse in memory to a unified emotion. I much preferred Spidey to Hulk, whom I actually abhorred.
The Star Trek cartoon seemed to lack music - I have no recollection of any.
How about the Avengers BBC TV show for uncanny cool and weird menace? I've ebeen working up a guitar cover of the theme.

Squink Out!

Grew up watching the original spidey cartoon and loved the music. Great thread!
A side note as it was mentioned earlier about the backgrounds. There was a noticeable change from Season 1 to the subsequent seasons.
Those that also watched "Rocket Robin Hood" would recognize some of the later artwork. It is detailed at the link below. ( so is the music)
Now on to re-listen to the music!

P.S. How about the original opening theme from Space1999. Way Funky!

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

This is a great thread!
The music from these cartoons fused in my young mind with early exposure to Duke Ellington and has had an everlasting influence.
I often hear some of our songs in my mind with broader arrangements of horns etc.
I believe the evidence is in this song from our last record

We were going for a very similar vibe.
I'm loving the posted examples. Great stuff!

Cheers,
Jeff

About 20 years ago, I found this CD called 'Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits', and being the kid at heart that I am I bought it. On that album is a Ramones cover of the "Spider Man Theme."

Ramones "Spider Man"

Fast Cars & Loud Guitars!

Surfabilly - now that's a blast from the past as I bought that same release on tape cassette simply for the Spider-Man theme.
Thanks for the memory!

I was just playing that the other day! Good covers on there.

Another cover I liked of the Spiderman theme was by a Canadian vocal group called Moxy Fruvous.

My favorite track is still Rev. Horton Heat's Johnny Quest theme.

From past me to future you

To be honest, I lucked out on my finding the 'Saturday Morning Cartoons Greatest Hits' at the (now defunct) local On Cue store. Somebody had special ordered it, then never bothered to pick it up, so they put it out on the sales floor. A serendipitous find, if you will. Smile

It was with this album that I discovered the Australian band Frente!, with their cover of "Open Up Your Heart (and Let the Sun Shine In)."

Fast Cars & Loud Guitars!

I really enjoyed the compilation video of al the Spiderman background music. Does anyone know if a collection like this has ever been released on CD? That would be a great addition to the collection od instro music me thinks!
I was surprised listening to it/watching it on how many episodes I remembered. Spiderman, Batman, The Monkees and The Banana Splits were a staple back then.
Smile

Sadly, no....check out this link for details:

Spiderman Music

What I wouldn't give to have a clean, pristine CD of that funky music from the first couple of seasons....

Oh Yeah!
We have an H.R. Puffenstuff DVD sitting right next to our TV that we need to watch.
Should bring back some fun childhood memories
or strange flashbacks!

Jeff

Sometimes that theme gets stuck in my head, something like, "H.R. Puffenstuff, can't do a little but can't do enough." My recollection of the show from early childhood is dim. Witchie-poo WTF? Syd & Marty Krofft had a really odd colorful aesthetic but I remember that as a 5 yr old I found it a little tacky.

I have a bunch of Krofft stuff on DVD...

For the jazz crowd, these are some of my favorites more modern than Jonny Quest and the 60's Spiderman (which are still good):
