Yesterday, our group played at street-level under an events tent in the thick of a large outdoor farmers/crafts public market in the greater Vancouver area.
It was clear that many did not know what to make of it. But by the time we finished playing, we had an audience of perhaps 80-100 folks ranging from toddlers to the elderly (in their 90s) soaking up the reverb and the sun.
We were even propositioned to play an outdoor neighbourhood party that evening that would have been nice for the $ but we couldn't swing it because of other commitments.
It has been an interesting experience playing in a surf/instro group over the past year...there have been numerous times where people give puzzled looks when describing it, and that we wear masks and uniformed bowling shirts, etc. and then they sound surprised that they liked it so much when you speak to them afterwards.
