With all of the current interest in Spain's Els A-Phonics, especially after their triumphant performances at the convention and pier this past weekend, I thought it might be a cool idea to mention some background on these amazing musicians...

Be sure to check out their previous 2 releases on Sleazy records...

And, check out their previous bands...
--Guitarist Juan Diego (one of the masterminds behind the annual Surf festival extravaganza Surforama in Valencia) was previously in The Vibrants from Zaragosa
--Bassist Nacho was previously in The Chewbacca's
--Drummer Eugeni and Guitarist Motxo were previously in Pildora X
--The band has backed up many of the legends that headlined The Surforama Festival--Eddie Bertrand, Nokie Edwards, David Marks and John Blair.

Be sure to catch them as many times as possible on their California tour!

Thursday, Aug. 13: Viva Cantina, Burbank
Friday, Aug. 14: Alex's Bar, Long Beach
Sat., Aug. 15: Tiki Oasis Car Show, Crown Plaza Hotel, San Diego

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

I picked up the Els A-Phonics and Friends lp at Surfer Joe. There is a great list of guests on the album's 8 songs. My only complaint is that it is too short! And as Jon Paul has said, a great live band as weLL. Check them out if you get the chance; you will not be disappointed.

There is always at least one band that I haven't really heard of or paid attention to at the conventions that absolutely blows me away. Hands down, Els A-phonics wins this distinction this year for me. They truly BLEW ME AWAY live. I remember being completely stunned by their performance at the convention and then the pier the next day. WOW!

I remember turning away from their set at the convention completely slack jawed. I turned around and saw Robbie Reverb with the same look on his face. AMAZING.

Agree John, Jonpaul, Dane and I played with them in Valencia in June so I knew what treat we were all in for, but they were even better than I expected! Fernando of Los Coronas was an excellent choice for fill-in for their regular guitarist Motxo (who is really good in his own right!).

Agree Agree Agree Eugeni is an astoundingly great drummer! They're all genuine and wonderful people, too, but I want to single out Juan Diego (the lefty guitarist) in particular, who was our tour promoter and driver in Spain. The man has a heart of pure gold! I can't say enough good things about him!

I envy those of you in California who'll get to see them more this week! Try to have some extra blast for the rest of us, too! Smile

The Elk's Lodge is still trying to scrape me off the floor! These guys absolutely smoked the place. I can't remember many times that i've been this blown away. They were as great as any band I've ever heard. Words do not remotely even begin to do the Els A-Pnonics justice. Phenomenal!!!!

Well-said! They were great!

I wish I could see them tonight thru Friday,
But I will catch them again at tiki oasis

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I'm really looking forward to meeting and playing with them tonight in sleepy Ventura, live and in person.

Thanks for the information on this band and their previous projects. Amazing performance at the convention, you could tell that they made an impression on the audience seeing the lane to buy their stuff at the end of the show (including me, their LP is gonna be on my turntable for a while!).
