Permalink Ant-Man has surf music in the end credits !

New Topic

Well , I searched to see if anyone had brought this up but it seems it is still fairly fresh to talk about.

Beth and I went to see Ant-Man last night. I think I'd like to see it again in 3-D . It's that good. Better still two Easter eggs and between the first Easter egg and the credits is some very , very good surf guitar joined in by some Bond like horns at the tail. WHO ARE THESE GUYS ? What is the title? I couldn't figure which of the tunes it was because the music credits splashed the credits all at the same time and rolled away to quickly for us ( we were in the first row barcoloungers)

This is a very good time for surf music and if this gets any real attention, it may be the best movie shot for surf since Pulp Fiction ( was that 30 years ago already?) anyway ....additional comments are welcome. How can we tell the studio how much we enjoy hearing surf tunes in the films?

Didn't see it but did some googling and found this:

http://collider.com/composer-christophe-beck-on-ant-man-sisters-and-peanuts-movie/

What character or situation was the most fun or challenging for you to create some music for in Ant-Man?

BECK: There was one scene in particular where Ant-Man is on a raft and there are thousands of ants and he’s essentially surfing on them down this water pipe. That was a tricky scene because at first I played it like a regular action cue where it was kind of intense. It was exciting musically maybe, but it was just a little too intense for the scene. Peyton really wanted to get a sense of fun out of this scene, like a sort of wish fulfillment fantasy. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could just shrink to the size of an ant and go surfing on a thousand ants? And not, oh my God, is he going to be able to make it? Oh my God, is he going to be able to get into this place he’s trying to break into? There were several versions of the cue and each got progressively more lighthearted and fun, but it still wasn’t quite hitting the mark. Literally, a couple hours before getting on a plane, I finally [figured it out]. For some reason, I had resisted the whole surf aspect of it. I just thought it was too obvious a choice, but I finally just embraced it. I tried to do a piece that evokes the classic guitar surf music but without a guitar. I was replacing guitar with piano and the orchestra, but really keeping the feel of wild abandon that’s in a lot of the little surf tracks, and cranking up the tempo, and putting in lots of notes for the orchestra. The idea was to create Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, just a crazy journey at a breakneck pace. That’s one of my favorite cues in the movie.

Sounds like they should have used an Insect Surfers tune here...

Yeah, you would think the insect surfers would be the go to group for this. Maybe they could do a night at the movies where they play before and after the movie Ant- Man . It would be PERFECT !

That may be another reason to see it again as well. That pat was exciting but did not strike me as classic surf at the time.. Though , a lot of pieces for orchestra or piano could be surfed.

ANT - MAN ....The soundtrack was released digitally on July 17, 2015 and is scheduled for a physical release on August 7.

Just found this in Wikipedia. I'm going to research the downloaded version .... Probably nothing there because credits are rare much less song writers , performers, producers, performers, engineers...you get it - only my generation wanted to know that stuff, right?

RIDDLE SOMEWHAT SOLVED:

OK ... TALES TO ASTONISH ! - score writer : Christophe Beck.
A surfy version of the title theme which is longer and has a big pounding beat great for a drummer. Found on iTunes (natch).

The INSECT SURFERS should be covering this tune and beat Los STRAIGHTJACKETS because I know they are gonna do it. It's a no miss. Somebody tell Dave Arnson.

Does that ride still exist at Disneyland? (Yeah, Disneyland, not that other place in Florida...)

I listened to parts of the downloadable soundtrack not really finding the section of the ant surfing in the water main song. This section describe as mr. Toad form Disneyland ( yes we rode it last year ) . But this is not the surfy bit I was talking about. If you go to iTunes and look up the soundtrack , you will find about six tunes from the end. Called TALES TO ASTONISH ! , it is a surf tune front to back , movie style like a Bond. Now to figure out who played on it.

I haven't been able to figure out who plays that surf bit at the end of the movie, either. The music credits aren't very helpful. They don't seem to be in the order that they're heard in the movie.

Also, in the music credits "Ant Music" by Adam & the Ants is listed; however, I'm pretty sure that the song isn't in the movie anywhere. Go figure. I'm a big fan of Adam & the Ants and I would have recognized the song, if it had been somewhere in the movie. Marco Pirroni, Adam's guitar player and Gretsch 6120 slinger, is a huge Duane Eddy fan.

Ha! Perfect!

I liked the tune in the Ant Man Credits, but it was more spy than surf - note the lack of reverb. Fun movie too! A bit implausible, but what the heck, it's summer!

Squink Out!

Maybe we could all make it part of our repertoire... You may be right more spy than surf but....were on the right track. I would want to have some of my compositions picked up for movies... Right..?

yeah i thought that odd as well considering it was credited as performed by adam so we should've heard it clear enough to notice. not unless it was buried subliminally in some bass rumble.

I'll have to watch it again. Maybe out on disc by now.
