Not quite 10, my last count was three. Lilly, the bartender would not accept my money. So, Jean Paul was kind enough to do the buying, I just wanted to make sure that the Hut got some business from us. After the show, the new owner,Timm, the booker, and myself had a talk and they were very pleased with the show. The owner even bought some merchandise. They will work with us with some more surf shows and once they get theit licenses squared with the city, there might even be compensation involved..

Or course it helped that our community showed up with 4 quality bands that gave a hell of a show. A SHOW THAT WILL BE TALKED ABOUT FOR A WHILE.
Thanks to GTS - exotic surf with a very focused set list, like what Allan said, best we have heard from them so far, it was also great to see other drummers like Dusty, Duff from the Torquays and myself super applauding Bruce their drummer during that one song when he had to maintain a very kinetic beat. AQUASONICS - killer surf, good musicians and came up with a contagious party atmosphere and ready to roll, man, you can feel the energy all the way to the parking lot. Now I know why this band has a well deserved reputation of being a crowd pleaser. The NEPTUNES - I was very impressed by this band from Fresno. Very polished but edgy. These guys know how to use equipment. All great musicians with superior musical instincts. Sneaking Dusty for a couple of songs was a real treat.

All these excitement and playing close to the growd has great. The vibes were bouncing around pretty quick.

Tim, great photos, it shows the intimacy and the energy of the show.

Wow thanks Tony!

Here are some shots from the road

image
WHen we pulled over to let the drummer out to run around in a field
in Bakersfield we heard a loud rapping... not like YO! rapping... but an evil clanking kind of rap, it would quiet to a whine, then sound like hell.
It sounded BAD, we found a NAPA auto parts, found our problem,
a belt guide that was easy to get to.
This is Jay holding a tensioner pulley back.
image
This WAS a sealed bearing, when the part came off the unit literally
fell apart in Jim's hands.
image
Then Jay pulled over on the "Vine" to put on a new radiator cap because
the van was running a tad warm.
image
we made it.... Jay looks like he had a long day.

Hap Hazzardly Driving to the Doll Hut

Now that, Gentlemen, is my kind of posting........Absolutely marvelous!..............eddie gives it all thumbs up (and he's pretty much all thumbs)

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Thanks for posting all these pics and stories. Keep them coming. I wish I could have been there.

This show was crazy!

remember Tony's pics of the Doll Hut a while back? yeah, it's that small. He showed the whole place in those photos. It's cool inside, and everyone there was into surf. I had several PBR's throughout the night. and then the music started....

Glasgow Tiki Shakers were really great - I was impressed, as was everyone else.

Outerwave left me speechless! I'd been hearing about how great they are from HBKahuna and BTD, but they were REALLY GREAT! Trad to a "T" awesome sound, great tunes -

I only got to hear a couple of Neptunes songs, but they were great too. I saw them on Sunday as well, and I'll talk more about them in that thread.

The Aquasonics played entirely too loud - something I am truly sorry about -
BeatmanTony is a super guy - very nice. thanks for setting the show up for everyone. We all had a great time!

Thanks to everyone that came out for it too!

Chris

The Aquasonics played entirely too loud

Hey, loud or not loud you guys came in to play and it came across. Loud is not bad if it is good music, we from SoCal really appreciated that. Any surf band that starts the set with "Wipe Out" is saying "like it or not,it's party time". We enjoyed your set. Come back and see us again. Give us some advance time and we will try to get good gigs.

Funny, when i was going home I asked the owner of the Doll Hut if he enjoyed the show, he gave me a big grin and then pulled out your CD from his jacket.

Thanks again for Tony to hook up this gig.
I figured if the Neptunes and Aquasonics were coming from outta town, to play at the Pier for free. it would be nice if we could have a gig for them to make a little money. not enough to pay for all expenses, but I'm sure, and hope, what they got at the Doll Hut helped in some way.
So I picked up the Phone and asked Tony(THE MAN) if he could pull something together for them, he said let him work on it. Then he called me back and said, its booked at the Doll Hut, which is one of my fave places for shows, because I saw my first and many other surf shows there over the years, but not many lately, and its very close to me, Usually I have to drive 5 to 50 miles for shows. Then he added that the Glasgow tiki shakers were added to the bill. I about wigged out.
So in anticipation of the show I decided to have a BBQ for some of my real close surf crowd friends and the bands that were playing that night.
I invited 50 to 60. about 20 25 showed up. But it was a great BBQ, everybody left stuffed and some really drunk, Rolling Eyes JP and Marty Wink

I got from my place to the Doll hut in 3 minutes, gotta love it. Shocked
and didnt miss a minute of the show.
as stated in other reviews everybody was on fire.
I was totally blown away by the new Neptunes sound. even though they are a 5 piece now, with 2 guitars and sax. its not trad to a T like the Eliminators, (thank god). They still have a very cutting edge sound, and the sax player just rips, very jazzy, and great licks.

I had got the Cd of the Aquasonics, from Chris, when he was out here for the Deke Dickerson Guitar Geek Fest. He told me it wasnt that good as it was with old members and not recorded well. I thought it was really good, kinda tame but nowhere as near as what he poo pooed it as.
so I knew that of course they would be better now with 2 better members, and most bands are better live anyways. Plus I had seen some youtube vids. wow wow wow. was I right, and then some.
Damn these guys smoked the place. when they first started Chris volume was a bit low, so I asked him to turn up. I and he and some others think he went a tad too far Wink But I think it was not bad at all. I love loud ripping surf music, damn it sounded sweet to hear Reverbed surf tunes blasting the Doll hut walls again.

hope to see the Neptunes and Aquasonics down here again next year.
and for many more shows at the Doll Hut with the new owner in charge.

thanks again bands, and to Tony. I owe ya man,
Jeff(bigtikidude)
p.s. then there was 6 bands at the HB pier the next day. oh man

this is what weekends in So. Cal are all about.

Thanks Tony - We know the stigma Wipeout has, but MadDog loves to play it, and he does play it great, so we play it with no apologies now. I'm glad the owner liked the gig - I hope there are more shows there in the future - I thought it was great!
