Oleg is my favorite current surf guitarist. He gets the coolest sounds from his guitar. His tone and technique are excellent. And I love his songs! I envy those of you who can see him live

Hard one!
Depends on the day and mood.
But what Dinko does with his Magnatone is awesome.
Oleg's creativity and Jazzmaster sound is addictive.
But I agree with Danny, just favorites.

When you have to shoot ... shoot! Don't talk.

I think it`s an interesting discussion what makes a good surf guitarist?

For me the important ingredients are tone, timing/dynamics and the ability to write good songs. Technical virtuosity is nice sometimes, but there are plenty of good surf guitarists that may not have the best technique, but they write good songs, sound good and give a dynamic and spot on performance.

86'd for using all the wrong equipment. Also allowing that redheaded guy to sing all the time. Sheesh.

Dick Dale apparently is the best Heavy Metal guitarist from what I've heard.

Jim Masoner??

Eddie Bertrand???

Personally I would have to choose between these two and Larry Weed. But even in the 60s there were way "too many" good guys to make a decision for me. And nowadays we have so many great players just at ONE festival... It's totally crazy!

Any other genre this would incite a riot. But we don't act like a bunch of hodads do we? Ivan Pongracic and Martin Cilia got me into this mess so I blame them as my 2 favorites. I'm not literate enough to know any better cause I'm new at this an don't know every hot-shot guitarist. I am surprised Dick Dale's not getting more votes. Anyone heard of him? He's pretty good for an old fart.

That is because Dick Dale is not a guitarist. He is a self-proclaimed "manipulator of instruments." Wink

And my education continues... Hey Simon, I'm getting ready to post a new song. Should be available by tomorrow. I've attempted to get a 'pure' surf vibe. Look for the topic thread- you're comments in the past have been a real help.

And now, back to the topic: Johnny Ramone!!!! I'll never forget the first time I heard 'California Sun' off of Ramones Leave Home. My buddy and I went into convolutions of ecstasy. "He really CAN play lead guitar!!!"

BTW: A Mosrite. Thor's Hammer.

Hi Danny!

I am with you.

Here's one of my personal fav's: Ryan Ruiz.

And then there's Garrett "Dr. Lehos" Immel, Dave Wronski, Ivan P, Martin Cilia, Alex Faide, Martin Schmidt, ...the list goes on and on. And that's without taking into account the old skool guys from the 1st Wave.

Second Wave - John Blair

Third Wave - Martin Cilia

Overall - Martin Cilia
