Oh I totally understood that you were talking about just people from Myspace thru Kristena's involvement. I wasn't trying to say it wasn't true, But I also was the one that mentioned to her, to tell people/bands
that she made contact with on Myspace, that were not on sg101, to tell them about it. She said, "oh yeah, good idea"
I am on the fence about Myspace, there are pros and cons with myspace.
I hate the way it looks/functions/scrolls
If I get in a band I will get one, but untill then, not so much.
But she sends me links all the time to listen to bands.
and I really dont have the time, I spend to much time on the net as it is.

An easier way to spread the word about SG101 would be to have a set of clickable banners available, that everyone on here who have a MySpace could choose from an then put up on their respective MySpaces. I just put up such a banner on our page:

Clearly there are a lot of dedicated surf music fans on MySpace who have probably never heard of SG101 but would love to join in on the forum discussions, which of course would also boost the genre as a whole.
I like tis idea...I'd install a clickable link to SG101 on the dp myspace place for sure!

The TakeOffs promote SG101 and the 2006 comp on our myspace.......if all the SG101 bands did that.......well, Brian can take a nap!  It's a lot of work keeping up with all the requests etc. but we've hooked up with old friends and new friends that we would not have had without it......but the most attention we ever got over here on Kauai is from SG101 "friends". I think it was the first month or so of playing weekly at The Sheraton Kauai Resort that BTD's parents came in there and told us about SG101. Since then we have met some really great folks....Brian, BTD (Jeff), StormTiger who made us a bitchin' poster, SonicChris, Ferenc, who came and saw us play, Outsides who came and saw us play, The Primativos who came and saw us play and "sat in" with us, Mike Huffman from Kauai Menu magazine who got a picture of us in the Summer '07 issue. It's kinda like a family here......that's so cool.....even for a bunch of surf jakes way out here. Our myspace is like a business card or demo and press pack all in one and being from Kauai, we need that extra hype so we can maybe go to California and play at the Huntington Beach museum which is our dream as a band and meet some of you great players and surf/instro fans face to face. June marks our 3rd year at The Sheraton.......a dream gig for any band. So, put a link to SG101 on your myspace.......do it now!!

I do appreciate you all spreading the word about this site on myspace. We definitely have gathered a lot of new members from myspace. 90% of that is probably due to Kristena, no doubt.

I think I have brought alot of people here.
I am always talking people into coming here and leaving the yahoo groups behind. and also telling new surf fans I meet online(e-mails) and in Person.
about SG101.

I thought the point with you setting up an SG101 MySpace was to spread the word to people who didn't already know about SG101... If you only got friend requests from people you recognized, the whole thing would be pretty pointless.

Yes, and if anyone would like to make some banner graphics for SG101 to use for that, or on other websites, I would appreciate it. I will start a "link to me" section here on this site that will be a gallery of such banners.

I think the trick is to have kick ass graphics and leave them as comment with your friends, and have that as your logo - moving gif preferably.
that's how many people navigate through myspace - you're on someone's page and you see an image that attracts you, and you click it.

So what is it about myspace and the & symbol? If I type Jon & The Nightriders, it get's displayed as "Jon &; The Nightriders".
Fine, so I type the HTML entity for &, so I type: "Jon & The Nightriders", and it has no effect at all.

I'm not on myspace so I may be wrong about this, but when you add them to be your friend, you can say please come check out the forum, and then ask them to tell all their myspace friends about the sg101 forum.
and if there are any big news things tyhat get posted on sg101,
you could sent out a bullitin or message to all your Myspace friends saying please read this news item, and give the link to the item on the sg101 site.
