Permalink Japanese Jags - 80's vs current.

New Topic

I'd been looking for a CIJ Jag recently.

I played a new one in a local shop for a few hours. It played and sounded nice but the chromework seemed a little cheapish for the $1100 that they cost in the UK. (although you can get a new one on e-bay for just under a $1000 - I'll usually pay the extra to buy a guitar I've actually played)

Anyway - as it happened - an '85 one cropped up on e-bay and I won it at a really good price ($600ish). I'm really pleased with it: it seems heavier and the chrome more substantial than the new one I'd played. Anyone know of the differences between the CIJs of 20 years ago and now? Personally I think it's made of different wood - maybe Alder. Were the pickups still made in Japan then or were they using US ones? Thanks.
