Yes, pans are cheap but GC should be buying him the pan & having it drop-shipped to him.

I agree. Or at least get them to give him store credit if he wants to do it himself.

Again, all very helpful responses. Great board, no BS here.

I took a shot on the MOD equivalent, we'll see. You know, overall it was a really good deal so I guess I shouldn't complain but it's funny how you really can't expect anything out of a company like that (GC). But I consider this circumstance to be a blessing, you guys have taken me to school and I'm walking away with some good stuff. Thanks again!

When I got my reverb tank, I had the same experience: "Reverb tank is here! I am stoked!" But then no great reverb sound. It was like I fell off the surf board and had a jet of water shoved up my nose, on the first wave of the day. Big Grin

You unplugged and tried a different pan. But did you actually open up the pan that you have now? When you engage the lock, the springs nestle up against a piece of foam. To prevent them from rattling around as you move it. In my case, that piece of foam unglued from the side. And had wedged itself between the springs. So no springy sound. I pulled out the foam and have been good ever since.

Good luck with it!

Take that POS back to GC and demand that they give you your money back. Why should a consumer be expected to pay for something that does not work?

If the manager gives you a hard time, then tell him you will be posting your experience on this site and others, maybe even pasting a letter in the newspaper, complaining to the BBB, maybe even filing a complaint with the court for redress.

Just some comments from a guy who has walked in your shoes.

Or you could just return it like one would normally do, and appreciate the fact that the managers at a guitar center are people like you and I, and probably hate the place just as much as anyone else.

Just my $.02.

IMO.

My bet is, GC won't pass out a dollar refund, but MAY, give credit for strings n picks.

I should have stated, ask, not demand. I always try to be polite first. I learned that at the academy. Then, when I traded my gun and badge for law books, I had to become more verbally aggressive, argumentative. It usually works, except when I pull that on the wife, then I am sleeping in the garage.

Fair enough ^ sorry for the snarky response, haha.

IMO.

No offense taken PR. I got burned on a reverb I bought on ebay; was advertised as sounding fantastic, but when I received it there was no verb sound. I thought it would be a simple fix, bad tube, bad cable[s], maybe the pan springs broke in transit. I got busy with work, I had my reliable 61 Reverb, so, I put it away, forgot about it for at least a year. After three techs going through it, it still does not work.

So, being a former cop and now a litigator, and based upon my experience stated above, I guess I jumped the gun.

I still argue, take that POS back to GC, politely ask for a refund, then if met with resistance, as Steve McGarret would say, "sue em Danno." (or was that "book em' Danno")

No offense taken PR. My "demand" statement was in fact a bit harsh, but, after often getting jerked around by companies/[some]individuals (on ebay) that substitute dung for quality, but advertise as the latter, I find myself jumping to the P/O mode quickly.

I envy ya living in Perry country, especially Austin. Do you have any room for Brown and Pelosi and the legions of libs in CA that are turning CA into a welfare state?

I could not avoid the political comment.

We don't take kindly to those political statements, this is not facebook, please keep them to yourself.

Thank you for the advice, Stormfinger.

My pleasure Serfbeat.

We lib's are actually pretty okay with Austin. Texas sucks on many levels, but Austin is not as bad as most of the state.

Of course, I'd much rather be in California. Want to trade?

IMO.

Lets go for the trade, (even if I have to mix it up with the libs) (lol) but I am hanging on to my 61 Showman, Strat and verb. Back in the day they were not cheap, so my folks probably would not agree to let me peddle them to get to Austin.

Wow! Austin. It would great to get down there again, to hear Rollibard with the Thunderbirds, Funderberg with Myers, Lou Ann Barton and the ton of other great performers you have over there.

When I began my first law enforcement job with the Border Patrol when I returned from Nam in 1970 I had an opportunity to stay down in Brownsville.

I brought my instruments with me back then and would rock out with Freddy Fender at a bar on the weekends, a few years before he became famous.

You gotta be playing surd with some soul.

Stay kool PR. I am off for a jog.

Haha! Depending on where you're at, you could probably get a house in Austin for a lot less than most in Cali... And no need to liquidate your stuff. It's pretty alright here! Aside from the weather of course.

IMO.

Sent you a pm i got an extra mod pan laying around ill sell cheap

Hey Todd, I forgot to ask you when we spoke, did you keep any photos of the guts of your 76 SF Reverb unit? I am still trying to get my POS up n running.

I just noticed the other day the tech who worked on it replaced the tranny with a cheapo Mojo part. I checked out mine yesterday under the guidance of a guy on Youtube and nothing was wrong wit it. Goes to show ya, it is better to learn to work on your own gear so you know it id done right.

I know there is a thread where the pics are posted but i can look on my computer if you need them, so you have the silverface thats not working and now a RI that had problems working...?

Just an interesting epilogue to this whole thing/thread:

I reached out to Guitar Center, expressing my disappointment that this was even an issue I'd have to deal with, etc. Turns out they sold this Tank to someone else who returned it for the EXACT same reason - then they sent it to a tech to fix it, and supposedly the day they got it back is the same day I ordered it, so they just shipped it out sight unseen (???).

Whatever, I mean they refunded me the cost of the replacement reverb pan but it would've saved them a massive headache if they'd have just tested the darned thing before sending it out. Sheesh. Whatever

Anyway, credit where it's due, they eventually did the right thing and I've got a nice great reverb tank so all's right with my world. Thanks again you guys, I really appreciated the help!
