It should be possible by exchanging bridge and middle wires (middle on position 5 and neck on position 3). Or by use of a superswitch, but I'd stick with the simple solution.
That being said: I'd rather have all PU combinations then two tone-knobs (not using any of those), so I'd prefer the blender knob.

That's what my tech suggested. Any concerns?

Nope - Just that it costs about 20€, and what you have in mind can easily be realized with the original switch - if you accept switch positions deviating from the physical position of the PUps. Hardware will stay much closer to original condition (easier reversible by switching two cables), it's quite a bit less material and work costs, but electronic-wise identical result.
However, if you expect your switch to exactly resemble the PUp positions (which you break up with your N-Br mod anyway...), you do need the flexibility of the superswitch.

I have one stracocaster american standard I moded with a push/pull knob and I find a lack of grit when I use the neck and bridge option. Not power neither presence. The same lack of grit happens with a burns pro marquee which has the option of the neck and bridge pickups. They aré very far from the sound I can get from a tele, jaguar, yamaha sgv or whatever guitar with only two pickups with both on.
That is strange. I was just playing a Jag last week and my Bridge+Neck combo sounds nice by comparison - as I said earlier, a nice surfy approximation. I will definitely be using this for upcoming surf gigs.
The only thing I notice is when I flip over the switch for it to be Bridge-only, there is a small volume increase - but this is fairly subtle and it likely has less to do with output volume and more about the brassy high frequencies from just running the Bridge pickup on its own.
When I play with guitars with only two pickups the sound is full and round but with certain bite that sits very well in the mix. I am not going to explain that sound because everybody knows it here. But with the stratocaster and a push pull knob I find that the sound of the bridge plus neck pickups has a loss of presence and punch (not volume) and a sound that is closer to the sound of the 2nd and 4th position (I am not saying that I get quack from that position but that the sound tends more to that sound that to the sound I would get from a tele, jaguar, yamaha or whatever guitar with only two pickups you want to choose).
It is a sound of its own, but not close to the round, grity and full sound you get from guitars with two pickups. That is what my ears say to me.
I do not know if that would happens with a stratocaster with only two pickups and a three position switch, because I remember some videos of Shigeo Naka playing with a stratocaster with only two pickups and the sound of the middle position was gorgeous.

I just got this pick up mod done on my Strat Plus. There is now a push pull pot on the volume knob that adds the bridge pick up to the neck pup in position 5, and all 3 pick ups on in position 4. With the volume knob pressed in, it switches like a normal 5 way strat.
I played my first gig with it last night, using the neck/bridge set up exclusively, and loved the sound! There was no "quack", just a jaguar-ish sound. This guitar does have 3 Seymour Duncan Lipstick pups in in, so it is going to sound different than strat pups, of course.
I also replaced the 6V6 tube in my reverb with a 6K6, which made a subtle difference too. Glad I did the mod.

Ha, I just did the update as well on both Strats. So it's B/B-N/M/M-N/N now.
I LOVE the B-N combination. It is very Jaguarish, but has some own character. Perfect for rhythm parts, IMO.

Nice. I thought about it for years, then after hearing Evan with the Boss Martians, I knew it was time (though I think he has a toggle switch on his).

I added a mini switch to my strats years ago. I think it's one super cool mod. I use the Br+N setting a large part of the time. What a great sound. It's always seamed strange to me that the boys at Fender didn't come up with this early on...
