Permalink Brian Wilson on Jimmy Kimmel last night ...

Anyone else see that?
I was embarrassed for him.
He sang "This Beautiful Day" from his about to be released album "No Pier Pressure".
His voice is gone, but I guess if you have the funds you can surround yourself with adequate studio musicians, but unfortunately it just didn't help last night.

Really too bad. I grew up with the BB, and lived in Huntington Beach during the early '60's.
I'm hoping the mix on JKL wasn't the best, and maybe the studio version is better ....

On edit ... see it here .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzXzVvQ0XME
Also ... this does sound a lot better on my computer than it did on my home theater system last night.

It's a bad week for singers on Kimmel: I watched the Van Halen performances on Monday and Tuesday, and David Lee Roth was horrific beyond words - I was also embarrassed for him, and for the rest of the band! Eddie looked GREAT, though, and played really well, so that's something!

Yeah Ivan, I saw that too.
I thought they were all having trouble hearing the mix, and DLR did that number on his nose with the mic stand, but yeah, it was not good at all.
DLR's timing was waaaaaay off, and so was EVH's at times.
I missed MA on bass and vocals.
IMHO: DLR is just too old for the big hip gyrations (but his other stage antics were sorta OK) and EVH just looked/sound rusty ...but healthier looking than I've seen him for quite some time.
Hopefully the tour will go better than that street appearance.

We have all had off nights. It's unfortunate we can't get them back.

BTW, I hate Youtube... LOL

ALSO. ONE of my biggest regrets from playing music is not trying out for the Wondermints(Brians band)when Darian asked me.
TWO. Not going to Brazil with Agent Orange when Dusty couldn't go. I had a stoopid job...

Again, Music is such a in the moment thing. I give them slack.

Actually after listening to it again via the youtube link I posted, it isn't all that bad after the first part (and I sorta added that admission to the edit of my post).
It actually 'now' kind'a reminds me of J Mascis' stuff ... which is a bit of an acquired taste. Wink
Through my home theater (which is a wall of Klipsch speakers/subs, and custom amps)it was not as good as the YouTube viddy.
Even his back-up singers would'a got a "Yeah, Dog, it wasn't good for me, just too pitchy" from Randy Jackson. Wink

WRT: Van Halen, evidently DLR needed 14 stitches to his nose right after the concert.
As you can see in this viddy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6RaoMXV87Q right at the beginning, he was ninja-twirling the mic stand, and it hit himself in the nose.
Here's the slow mo of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUXB7hAYfKU
So yeah ...that would certainly cause me to be off that night too.
BTW: it appears that they have somehow fixed a lot of the timing issues for these youtube viddys.
Big tour coming up, and lots of money on the line gets lots of fixes (???).

And as I indicated .... they also 'looked' like the monitor sound mix was not right.
Especially for DLR. He was messing with his earpiece in the sets on both nights (which I assume were really a single nights performance, spread over the two nights on the JKL show).
But like I said ... he needs to stop making like a leg humping dog, and lose the hip thrusts/gyrations.
It just looks ..... stupid.
