Permalink Fender Jazzmaster: Heroes of the underground

New Topic

Did anyone else get the email from Fender about the history of the Jazzmaster?

Some interesting inaccuracies in the playlist. Stairway to Heaven??
Aerosmith??
I know Jimmy Page played a lot of different guitars, but I don't think the Jazzmaster was one of them.

And who can forget that Jazzmaster classic
Little Sister by Elvis Presley!

Right, Paul.
Stairway to Heaven electric 12 string was a Fender 12 string solid body, and the solo was his old Tele used on the first 2 albums and while in The Yardbirds. I thought I read an interview long ago where he claimed he dragged out the old Supro Dual Tone for the solo bit as well.
Never a mention of a Jazzmaster...on anything Zep.!

The article isn't much better.

In the second paragraph it reads "It (Jazzmaster) soon shared a similar reputation with the Jaguar after the latter was introduced in 1962 and adopted by popular players such as Dick Dale.

This is an article written for Fender, the company that makes the Dick Dale signature Stratocaster.

Yeah, was in the inbox this morning. Pretty bad.

DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices.

"So to celebrate these “heroes of the underground,” we’ve compiled a playlist inspired by these offset masterpieces. From the Mustang Kurt Cobain used to record Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” to the signature Jaguar on Marr’s driving “Easy Money” to the famous Jazzmaster on the Ventures’ classic “Walk, Don’t Run,” the list proves these instruments are worthy of their reputations as versatile, vibrant and often raucous musical icons."

I don't think they are claiming that "Stairway" has a Jazzmaster, just an offset guitar on it. To avoid confusion, the article should have mentioned the Electric XII as another offset guitar in the fender line, but it didn't. And "Little Sister" does have a great lead guitar played on a Jazzmaster. But, the Dick Dale thing is inexcusable. Overall, a pretty poor article.

Marquee Moon was recorded using a Danelectro.

I had to look up the offset connection on several of the songs-

"Back in The Saddle" by Aerosmith has a Bass VI on it.

I couldn't find anything on the Blink 182 song.

"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been"

I stand corrected on the Elvis Little Sister if this article is correct.

Oh gee thanks Paul..........I had all but forgotten my brief stint years back in a "country" band lead by an Elvis wannabe........ Laughing

Maybe the goofs that penned that article are just trying to ruffle a few feathers.

Nah, maybe they are just stupid...........

We know better.

skeeter /Paul ...thanks for the great Hank Garland article

Also, I should give credit where credit is due, this first article in the series is really good. Including a mention of Danny Amis!!
