Hello again, ladies and gents....
The summer is coming again in the Midwest and its time to buy a few surf albums. Amazingly when I did a lot of looking around for surf bands on the web about 10 years ago, I never did get a really good listen to Sweden's Daytonas. One of the things that really got me into surf music was the Bikini World Compilation and they have a killer track on there. I also sadly have just now ordered my first two Urban Surf Kings albums.
Also I am open to recommendations. The Mermen are probably my favorite band, and also like fast stuff like the Phantom Surfers, Treblemakers, Dick Dale, and Slacktone. I also like the Garage sound of Eddie Angel's Guitar Party, Link Wray, Huevos Rancheros, Preston Wayne, and the Waistcoats intro album. There are certainly other bands I like that I could represent here, but they might be a combination of the two..... like the Space Cossacks, the Surf Dusters, Man or Astroman?.... and on and on.
Albums wise there are some insanely great albums by other bands not listed, such as the Fathoms "Fathomless", the Falcons full length, Austin Transit Authority, ... I don't know this is getting rather lengthy and I'm sure regardless I will get replies back on something I have heard already. Still, there is no surf scene here in Wisconsin.
I especially want to hear the Daytonas and maybe some good compilations of bands new to the genre in the last 5 years.

The Exotics and Nelsonics are out of Milwaukee.
Pick up the Satan's Pilgrims Plymouth Rock Best-Of. There is a lot of good stuff to chew on there if you don't have any SP yet.
Do you know about The Surfites? They just released "Big Pounder" on Double Crown. Klas and his brother were in the Daytonas.
I love that Bikini World comp also. I just picked up Eddie Angel Plays Link Wray....killer killer..!

Theres mention in there from Klas of a place he saw that still has Daytonas cds listed. I had bad luck trying to reach the guy and decided to give up You may have better luck. You'll find the link in page 4 of the thread above.

I have been to the Nelsonics and Exotics shows. I make such a spectacle of myself (for I was the only one to dance) that I got a free t shirt. I also already own all of the Satan's Pilgrims stuff, but I will have to check into the other items you mentioned.
I too like the new Eddie Angel album, but in all honestly I wish he wouldn't have produced it so cleanly. Garage music... I don't know, sounds better when it is a little distorted. I mean, I like his new album, but not as good as the sensational "Guitar Party" album.
I will look to see if I have any luck on the Daytonas cds. I really love the song on Bikini World.. and yes that is an outstanding compilation. Like I said, that cd played a very large role in me getting into surf music because there is virtually nil promotion for it here whatsoever.
Thanks.
