Your pointy remark leaves me perplexed. Is this the consensus of all surfish type people who just so happen to play a type of music loosely associated with um, surfing? Is it time again to rethink my world view? And what do we tell the people at Surf Rock Radio? That they are a lie? Would someone please start a massive redundant argument about surf music; what it is; who plays it and why? Be specific with your reasoning and use proper diction, this will get ugly.

So we say "I play surf music." We don't say "I play surf rock." And then we steel ourselves for the inevitable "Oh, like the Beach Boys!"
Have I got that all right?

I sometimes play surf metal, surf country, and surf polka.
It's all good to me.

Episode 41 - The Power of One Surf Band......from the mean streets of Johannesburg, South Africa, comes possibly the only frontline surf band in the country....with more power than you thought one surf band could have..... The Moths.... we luv 'em here, there's nothing like a power-3-piece surf band.....it's awesome to find another one to add to the library here at Mars...
We play this week, for the second last show of the year....BEWARE OF..THE MOTHS...album, in it's entirety...just a bit out of order cause we put our favourite tune last....get this album on Bandcamp here
https://themothssurf.bandcamp.com/album/beware-of-2
now The Moths have plenty to tell us about the band, the place, the gigs and most importantly, the food and beer......Willie Mars luvs that stuff...and wait till you hear what they've chucked on the braai for us this week...chicken feet maybe?? or something to stick in a Bunnychow perhaps??? oh yeah, they got black label beer to wash it down too!!
So the Moths pretty much run the whole show, and to complement their info sessions we have some The Breakaways Surf Band.... del-Toros.... Fernando Vasco.... Los atascados.. Los Tsunamis.... Men In Grey Suits
We also get in touch with some cool stuff from Martin, and some perspectives on stuff about drums.
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas too, as this show goes to air on Sunday on Surf Rock Radio on the weekend of the holidays....hope you have a good one.
By the way, there's no Christmas music.

Episode 42:.....and a happy new yeeeear!!....G'day folks, it's time to finish off the SGFM shows for 2015, and let's hope 2016 is a good one indeed...
What better way to celebrate the holiday period here on Mars than by letting someone else run the show... Eugene & The Sampletones have come to the rescue and put together a show to get us through this festive period...I even got to visit one of the Martins, from Marshall and the Martins, who dropped in all the way from Japan.
So enjoy the last part of the new years craziness, forget about going back to work, and listen to some neo-classic Brit-surf/instro......
Tune in Sunday, 9pm if you live in Brisbane Australia, 7pm if you live in Hong Kong, or some other time depending on what google says....then there's repeats a few times during the week.
Thanks for supporting Surf Guitars from Mars and Surf Rock Radio throughout 2015, it was a big year. Thanks to all the bands who helped us out. You rock. Thanks to the other Martin too, for giving us those tunes and insights that only a drummer can give...
Surf rock on.....

Episode 47 - This is not...the Greatest Surf Battle in The World...This is just a Tribute...
I wasn't sure how to squeeze a show into this weekend, THE biggest weekend of surf music known to Mars.... but then I thought, if you can't beat 'em.... rip off their event and get in first....
So I bring you the Willie Mars Mixtape of all things The 11th Annual Great Lakes Surf Battle... based on my own private stash of Canadian surf-instro-stoner rock....and it's largely supported by all things 10th GLSB, because that's what I have... but it also adds the 4th dimension of GLSB bands, who typically come from the West side of Canada and some bands who just aren't playing this year...what bands you ask????
Kimberley's own Surf Dragons.... Luau or Die...... The Mighty Swells.... Panty Tsunami.... The Dabs..... The Reverb Syndicate..... Urban Surf Kings..... The 427's..... Atomicos (co-founders of the Mars Manoeuvre).... The Burnin' Sands.... The Blue Demons..... The Gnarly Ones....... The Hang-Ten Hangmen....... and taking care of leakage at the back end... The Huaraches......
So tune in for this awesome tribute to awesome surf in about 6 hours time.... or any number of days / nights next week on Surf Rock Radio........... it's gonna be great....
