Hey Psycho........is that an L-111 Hammond? I have an L-111 at my mom's house. It's all that's remaining from my days of playing keyboards in the early and mid-80's. Most of that time I had a Model D that I removed the chorus generator out of and two 147's. We actually picked that ugly rascal up and loaded in the back of our truck. Yep, standard loading dock height. Tough guys back then........no loading ramp or lift gate.
I'm not much of an expert, but I believe it's an M 100.

The M series organs sounded better than the L series. They sounded fatter, much deeper and more "Hammond B-3" like. All of the M series that I've seen, (two or three) had squared off keys like the console series (A, B, C, D, and E) had. Those heavy squared off keys "plop," almost like the organ itself sounds when you hit them. The keys have a really neat bounce. Cool. Loved my Hammonds. Always in tune.........well not exactly. Built like a tank. All tube. My D model was built in 1939 and shipped to the First Baptist Church in Arlington, VA. The oiling records since day one were inside the bench when I bought it used for $500 in 1980. We lugged it around for years and it looked a bit tattered when I sold it to a local guy who restores Hammonds. After he finished the restoration, I dropped by to take a look. He had completely rebuilt it and refinished it in gloss black lacquer. It was beautiful.
My model D came with two tone generators and a full pedal board. Additionally, the pedals could be coupled to the keyboard which is unlike a B or C series and the way the octaves were folded back on the keyboard was different as well.
Don't you just hate thinking about all the neat toys you've had that got away?

I picked the middle of a snow storm to do guitar overdubs!

But it was spring inside!
Mostly we used an RCA 44BX, but sometimes used a plain old SM57 - which held it's own admirably against the RCA. You really can't go wrong with a 57.

I used a variety of fuzz boxes in different spots

DOD preamp250, Tonebender mkII clone, 1968 Fuzzrite, silicone Fuzzface (Hendrix model), Pro-Co Rat, an Ashbass Fuzzbrite ( It really does sound virtually identical to the Fuzz Rite)
Great mood lighting

My basic signal chain is:
Guitar, Echoplex, reverb, amp. You can see a Weber attenuator on the amp, which helped spare the sensitive RCA mic from a sonic cataclysm (sorry Ivan, couldn't resist!)
More guitar porn for the sake of it:

Here's a couple of more pics from the first day:

I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel (but i think it might be New Jersey!)

Good hunting! One of our keyboard players in the 70's had a chopped M-3. It sounded great.
If you find one and it seems to have dirty key contacts, there is a "secret" contact cleaner built into the keyboard that a lot of people are unaware is even there. On the right side, as you look at the organ from the back, if you feel around on the side of the keyboard assembly, you'll find a small hole, about and inch or so in diameter. Fish around inside there with your finger and you'll come across a small flat bar. My organ had a hole in the bar that I could take a small piece of stiff wire, make a 90 degree bend in it and hook it through the hole in the bar and slide the bar back and forth which cleans the key contacts. The M-series organs must have that built in.
Call an old Hammond dealer or contact them directly if you have issues. We had a great long time service guy here in Atlanta that was always very helpful. The service department at Hammond was very nice as well. I actually bought a few parts directly from them in the early '80s. I think they were in Chicago. It has been a long time since I "played" keyboards.
GAS? I know how that is. I am currently working to bulk up my PA gear.

I don't use one of those, and I've actually blown some very expensive mics at the studio we use.
So, Victor, what's the white Strat? You used to have a sunburst, maple-neck one, if I remember correctly, so this is new - at least to me.
Great to hear about your progress - good luck with finishing everything up!

The neck on my sunburst strat got extremely bowed beyond what the truss rod can cure -- under years of tension from heavy strings. Pretty unbelievable because it's such a thick boat-shaped neck, but it became like a medieval torture instrument. I finally gave up a got this white mexican road worn strat. Initially I was hesitant because I think relicing is cheesey, but it's actually a very nice guitar. Plus it's a thin nitro finish for $500.
The pick ups sucked, they were those crappy Tex-mex ones. I replaced those with 57/62's I took out of my old strat. I'm going to switch out the inertia block with a proper steel one as soon as I can find one that fits. It has really tall frets, but I got used to them, plus I suspect they'll wear down soon enough. One big plus about this guitar is I'm not worried about scratches or dings, in fact they'll just give it it's own character instead of the factory standard relic job.

Another amp pic

Echoplex maintenance

Yet another guitars pic

Wraping everthing up with one of the studio assistants

Hopefully we'll have everything mixed and ready for pressing over the next couple of weeks

Are Tex Mex different then Texas Specials? Because I really like the way Texas Specials sound.

I guess so. The Tex-Mex pickups were very nasally sounding, and i couldn't get a good sound out of them

Been busy mixing for the last few weeks. The devil is definitely in the details! Haven't been able to go in as often as I'd like, but the work is progressing. Here's a short video of one of the sessions featuring the Ampex 1/2" 2 track in full glory, plus a rack of evil compressors (a necessary evil!). Please excuse the crummy cell phone sound

Love the music. I hope you'll have the new CD ready by Asbury Park? In any case, it'll be terrific to see you again. Can't wait!

Hey, that's Uprisin' by the Cherokees! Cool track! Sounds really good, Victor!
Funny, we were also doing some mixing last night, which we hope to be the last of it. I believe the TomorrowMen are at the same stage. It looks like we'll have all three of these albums coming around the same time. Can't wait!

Thanks Noel. Unfortunately the record will be coming out around September or October according to the label, but we will be playing plenty of new stuff from it though.

Good catch Ivan, one of my favorite tracks.
Mixing can be very daunting, just when you think you've nailed it, you hear another detail that really bothers you and you have to start over again! It feels like it's never finished.
I'm looking forward to hearing all of you guys albums, it seems like a very fertile time for instro music!
