Hello folks..
I just joined here after seeing a link from another guitar players' forum...it was in a Ventures thread I was posting to.
Your site looks good, lots of good posts and topics..
I've been a surf music fan since 1960...it was the Ventures first 'Walk Don't Run' that got me hooked on wanting to learn lead guitar when I first started playing in 1963...I started late in life at the age of 20....but that was 44 years ago...been playing ever since.
Played in a few semi-pro (low paid) weekend bands in the '60's and '70's, mostly country and early rock...but we always did a few Ventures tunes, and the bar crowds always loved them.
Now I'm retired from my paying job, and looking for a few like-minded old codgers to play some tunes again.....for fun.

Hey, welcome!!!
You know, my dad turned 64 this year (just retired a year ago), and I
have him and my mother both to thank for my interest in rock and roll.
Like so many other kids in the 70s and 80s, I grew up listening to
good ol' fashioned rockabilly, doo wop, and rock instrumentals. (My
wife wasn't so lucky--she had to grow up listening to Lawrence Welk.)
Anyway, what really got me into instrumental rock was Duane Eddy, and
this wonderful tune known as "Rebel Rouser." Man, I LOVED that as a
kid (and still do, for that matter). Of course, I heard the Ventures, and
a host of other surf/instro bands.
Throughout the 1980s and early 90s, I really got into the rockabilly
revival scene (groups like the Stray Cats, the Cramps, and The Reverend
Horton Heat). With the surf revival of the 90s, I really got into the
newer bands (at the time, at least) such as the Bomboras, the Aqua
Velvets, and a whole host of others.
Sorry--I'm just rambling. But I guess my point is this: It is YOUR
generation which enabled those of MY generation (so-called Generation
X) to carry on the great tradition of rock and roll.
Oh, and as a funny aside, rock actually MIGHT be dead soon, but there
might be some hope after all. Check this out, courtesy of The Onion

Toni Iomi's "quote" is hilarious.
Again, welcome!!!

Hi ya newbie....I too started in 1963. Jan 20 to be exact. I took my hard earned $30.00 over to Sears and bought an archtop acoustic that lasted less than a month! My first taste of the Ventures was the "Another Smash" LP. We still do an almost exact Ghost Riders cover from that record. Welcome aboard, this is a GREAT site. Check out my two current groups on myspace.com. The Surge! and The AcoustaSonics........eddie k

Well if you have been lerking a while you know that there are as many uh, older guys here, as there are younger. There are even a few young ladies than visit every so often.
Welcome to SG101! It's a great place to be!
