Dear all,
I am very glad to announce the return of Fernando Pardo to North Sea Surf Radio as Spanish station voice for our station.
On September 27th North Sea Surf Radio broadcast the last edition of "Para Los Surferos", the weekly show Fernando Pardo had been doing for over a year since the very launch of NSSR. Due to a hectic tourschedule with various bands and other private activities Fernando was no longer able to continue producing his weekly shows and with pain in our heart we had to let this radio talent and surf music icon go.
Later this month, four months after his departure, Fernando's voice can once again be heard on a regular basis in a different capacity; as the Spanish station voice.
Spain and Latin America have a booming surf music scene. A huge portion of listeners of North Sea Surf Radio are from this area and their numbers are growing by the day. We feel that it is important to serve this language group in their own language to increase their involvement with our station. We already have 5 shows presented in Spanish and hope to add a 6th one real soon. We will be soon promoting these shows seperately with (digi)flyers in Spanish, communicating the starting times in various timezones (Madrid, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Lima etc.). On February 22nd we will broadcast the Latin American Top 61 followed by the Spanish Top 61 in April.
A Spanish station voice is the next logical step in accomodating our Spanish speaking surf friends. The station voice can be heard with occasional jingles but the bulk of jingles will remain in English. The main purpose of the station voice will be to announce the Spanish speaking shows and get people to vote for and listen to our countdown lists and specials.
Fernando Pardo is an icon in the Spanish music scene. He is known as guitarist and founder of Los Coronas, Sex Museum, Corizonas and another handful of Spanish r'n'r alternative bands. Active since 1985, he has spent his life to anything related to music as DJ, producer, journalist, collaborator and agitator of the independent Spanish r'n'r scene.
I would like to ask you all to join me in welcoming Fernando back to where he belongs; on North Sea Surf Radio.
Cheers,
—Niels Jansen
