In my case it was just before Nokie left them for the last time, and before his health scare in Japan. Bob Spalding was playing with them. I kinda wished I'd seen Jerry with them, too. Never did see them with Bob Bogle or Mel Taylor either.

The 2015 Ventures East Coast Fan Fest is going to feature music by Nokie Edwards, and Bob Spalding wants to play some Herb Alpert and TJB. Ought to be a lot of fun. We're looking forward to learning a lot more about V2 as well.

The Ventures seemed ageless for a long time. Their music is timeless, Except for the disco. Oh, well.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

This comming summer, of course? Still not on their official website...?

First saw them at Knotts Berry Farm, in the 80's. (met them backstage.)
Later saw them at SDSU Back Door theater. Both times with Mel Taylor. They will always be the best!

Yeah, it hasn't been officially announced anywhere that I know of outside the interview. We may never see any mention of farewell on the official website as I think that's aimed at the US market. The farewell is something for the Japan audiences. I doubt they will have any U.S. farewell dates. In the interview, Spalding says something about The Ventures having discontinued US performances - which they have but there were no US "farewell" performances. They just sorta faded away here. -Marty

Me and my boys were so fortunate to witness the Ventures play a few yrs ago at Universal Amphitheater were they opened for Brian Setzer at one of his Xmas shows. It wasnt announced, they just walked onto the stage (Nokie dragged a stool across to the center of the stage and sat down with his guitar) and I started screaming like a nut job. "Oh my gawd, Oh my gawd its the Ventures, its the Ventures!"

It's great you got to see them there, Tavo. That was indeed one of their rare performances in the U.S. in the last few years. It actually was announced on the radio so I took my wife and step son. I got busted at the show. I smuggled in a video camera. I carefully and secretly held the camera under my jacket just so the lens could capture the large video screen as The Ventures played. Occasionally I would check the fold-back screen to make sure I wasn't just capturing the inside of my jacket. During the Caravan drum solo my eyes were blinded by the flashlight of a young security guard. He motioned me out of my seat and took me to the nearby security office where they gave me a claim check for my camera. They said I could pick it up after the show. Fortunately they didn't make me erase anything. It was the slightest slap on the wrist. I was allowed to go back to my seat and see the rest of the show. Attached is one of the songs I captured from that show. -Marty
