I can't remember if you are able to record at home Sam. That would be one way to "hold down the fort" until the band comes together. If you have access to a drummer maybe he could cut the tracks for you and you take over from there and put out some music. I say this from plenty of experience.
I am recording a lot at home using the best and simplest home recording way as for me - GarageBand for iPad) some drummer and bass are built in as well as keyboards) so making up some fresh material, arranging properly the oldies and also making some covers for the favorite tunes)

Great idea; new journeys begin with first step. Plus being close with family and digital-oriented biz could be a plus. Ya never know the reaction when you tell a drummer it's gonna be ok to play faster and LOUD.

Hello everybody) it was a really busy and troubled winter in Ukraine, but spring is in full rights now and everything seems not so dark and gloomy) Our twins are one year old already (March 31) - so they come to my room and try to play my guitars)))
I finally re-launched the band with new members, great drummer plus nice guitar player (still no bass guitar player but I think he will show up sooner or later)
Thanks again for your support here and everywhere, I would not make it without it) Hope to show you some new material soon! Hope you are good as well, guys)

Really glad to hear this. Yes, winter can be long, and seem even longer with additional types of strife besides the weather. If you've got another guitar & a kick-butt drummer you're going to be like a magnet for a bass player - it will happen. Keep drivin'! and thanks for the update.

Great news, really happy for you!
Our band had about an 8 month hiatus/re-grouping, non-playing period but we're back at it again as well.
Sure feels good, doesn't it?
Cheers,
Jeff

Oh boy does it.
Tonight was our first practice since November where The Surgies! actually played songs as opposed to recording and re-recording CD tracks. It sure was fun.
Now comes the tough part.......try to learn the stuff we've recorded.
Five weeks until Instro Summit. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.......

Feels sooo good, Jeff) Only after a year playing with drum machine and your own back tracks you understand how you missed playing surf with live guys)))

Great to hear Samurai! My band went through hell this winter also. We tried out 2 different drummers. One moved to far away the other couldn't play loud enough. Ran another ad recently on craigslist and have gotten four responses even though CL is full of ads seeking drummers. People want to play surf! I'm meeting one prospect this weekend who says he's up to the task! I also added a second guitar/trumpet player to the lineup and hopefully we will be back up and running soon!

Trumpet? You said trumpet? So cool, I dream of making something like Twin Tones in sound, but no trumpet players around(((

Very interesting story. I had tried to recruit him as a second guitarist then I found out he also plays trumpet. He came over to the house and i took him through some songs then he pulled out the horn which he said he hadn't played in 5 years and in a few minutes he walked his way through the riff from Miserlou. Then we played it. Incredible tone and to play that song with the trumpet solo is just heaven! So now he is transcribing the sax parts of Tranquilizer, Exotic and the other horn songs we do. Killer guitarist as well! Very excited! Now to fill the position of drummer from a list of recruits off my craigslist ad!

Horn section - very cool! Check out Mister Neutron's "Comanchero".
Good luck Dave with your Drummer search. And yes, it'd be great to play Musica with you guys - or anywhere for that matter!

Actually just trumpet for when we need that extra sonic blast! Yep, I'm trying to get us back up and going for the summer including Musica which is a fantastic venue! Can't wait!

Just read through the thread. Congratulations, man! Looks like everything turned out good for you in the end and I think we all want to hear some material soon. Never give up! I had bands falling apart over and over again, but the love for music kept me going and you can always find people to share this love if you look hard enough and have enough patience. Cheers mate, really happy for you!

I can partly (only a very small part) understand what you went through.
Congratulations for your new band and Kudos to you for what you managed, still standing!
We were also having no bass player for over half a year. But fortunately we found a new guy, already did some recordings and will be very happy to play in Livrono next month with the new line up.
Cheers

Now you're tracking!
Years ago when I was doing competitive shooting I kept setting a goal of beating a personal best, or someone who was typically a thorn in my side on the scoresheet. Real results came when I decided to go after my Coach (and a dear friend). Results were much better. Aim high!
