New Topic

I´ve got a copy of Surfin bird (Trashmen) on Garrett Records with "December 6 1963 # 40" etched in the dead wax with big letters. It also got -KB-3962-A-R- in smaller letters. Cant find no info about this online, please help?

Great song! Hope the single sounds good.

I don't know about the etchings but Discogs has a pretty good list of all the pressings

and this one might be yours

Surfin' Bird is pretty common, I've never known any pressing to be very valuable.

Yes, thats is what it looks like. But as you can see, they don´t mention the "December 6..." etching in the runout groove...

I´ts not the value im interested in (no, really Smile ) but im a sucker for dead wax hand etchings and 1st pressings in general. I live in Sweden so it would be cool to have a first (or very early) US press of this wonderful piece of plastic! Yes I guess it would be better to ask on record collector forums but they usually dont know anything about surf music so.... Big Grin

Nice find, especially in Sweden! I'd kill for some Tages original singles!

Maybe John Blair could help with this.

I suggest you contact Barry and/or Marda and ask them. Tell them you're just a surf music fan on SG101 and curious about the record. Look up Barry Wickham Rare Records and you'll find a way to contact them.

Good luck!

KB-3962-A/R are the correct master #s for the Trashmen's 45 on Garrett. However, the date etched in the runoff area seems odd to me. It's the correct time period for the record (12/63). The #40, though?? Probably not a chart position...the record made it into the Top 10 nationally. I have no idea what this is, but it doesn't seem likely that it was etched on the stamper at the same time as the master #s.
