A friend asked me to play at the local ABATE motorcycle bash next summer on sunday morning. Hangover music. I asked him why, is it over and you want everyone to go home? LOL. He said no it's not over he wants to hear me play. Why not, maybe I'll practice more and take my lessons more seriously now. I could open with sleepwalk, that's my best tune so far. I'll need some solo guitar tunes.

You need to start practicing in the band ASAP!

Practicing with a band is worth 10x what practicing alone is. You do what you can, of course, but playing with others moves you forward faster than anything (true for me, at least).

Perfect! Lay out some tune ideas for a set that gets everyone firing up their Coleman stoves & get that band together.

Congrats on the gig!

Congrats,

Do you know where the bash is being held?

Knoxville Illnois at the county fairgrounds.

I agree with this if and only if you find that practicing with a band is inspiring enough that it makes you go home and practice your scales.

Does this mean you're playing a solo set?

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Congrats on the gig, I'm sure you will do great. One piece of advice, I wouldn't open with Sleepwalk. Generally, you should open with an up tempo song, and do the slower tunes a little later in the set. Good luck!

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New EP Louder Than Life available on bandcamp and website.

I've been there. Having a deadline will always light a fire under one's a**. You will advance much faster practicing with a band and then doing your homework between practice sessions.
Also, what SixString said. Come out with a pair of up-beat, danceable tunes. Save Sleepwalk for the "slow dance" later in the set.
