Permalink Danelectro 9100 reverb tank repair

New Topic

I got a Danelectro 9100 reverb unit from a buddy yesterday for super cheap, and I’m hoping someone here can help me figure out how to fix the reverb tank. One of the transducers disintegrated, and needs to be replaced.

I’m not opposed to switching to a modern tank, but from what I’ve read that is even more involved than fixing the existing one, due to impedance incompatibility. If this is not the case, let me know and I’ll consider that route.

I’ve read that a peizo transducer can be used, but I don’t know what I need to consider in selecting one, or how to install it. Guidance with this would be appreciated.

I am not concerned about the cheapest or least time consuming way to repair this, so no worries there. I have built pedals and wired guitars, but this is outside my realm of knowledge and understanding. I picked this up to use as a learning experience, and unlike the opinion of some, I think they sound pretty cool.

Here's a thread from The Gear Page where someone hacked together a fix for this type of reverb tank:

Personally, I would connect a modern tank with a high input impedance, like the ones used in solid-state amps. Looking at the schematic, the Danelectro reverb drive circuit is similar to that used in a few other guitar amps, and those used a high-impedance tank. The last post in that thread makes the same recommendation. I wouldn't be surprised if this experiment didn't work, but if it did, then you'd be set. Also, there might not be room for a full-size tank so you'd have to get a short one instead.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
