'Surf Tele'

tele_45 Joined: Aug 28, 2012 Posts: 22 Bradenton, Florida	Posted on Jul 29 2014 10:33 AM As long as I'm showing off - here's my 'home brew' 'Surf Tele'. Single piece pine body painted Rustoleum Red. Routed for strat tremolo. Super curly neck from some guy in CA. Pickups are generic MIM but sound OK. Used the front half of an old Tele bridge to hang the pickup and fill the space between. Neck is 1.75" and 16" radius - a little unusual but I grew up playing flat Gretsch fingerboards so it feels good to me. Top

Warmoth swamp ash body, 1/4 sawn 1 piece "boat neck" (Warmoth also) Did the same thing hanging the SD Antiquities Broadcaster pick up in a cut Tele bridge plate to make room for the vintage style Strat Trem. Just having a little dream to myself, I'd like to do this a little more seamlessly with a custom made plate, 2 post pivot and three piece saddle setup. I've been musing the idea of mounting the tremolo arm upside down through a body route directly to the underside of the pickguard area. So that it can't be seen, you don't need to reach for it or hold it while picking, you just press down a flush button concealed in the pickguard... Ha! Oh for a decent man cave! Top

Warmouth body (and neck) that's been routed for a Strat trem, and P90 pickups. I eye-balled it, so it's pretty rough, but looks good from 5 feet away. hard to see in the pics, but I also made a fore arm bevel with my belt sander. The buzz stop is made from parts from a discarded Air Soft gun. I originally used this guitar for gigs that we traveled by bicycle to. In short, it's messed up. I replaced (and still have) the stock maple neck with matching headstock) with an All Parts chunky neck (we're talking baseball bat). Also put on the Vibrate Bigsby where drilling could be avoided. If I ever want to revert the guitar back to stock I can. The neck pickup is a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound Jazzmaster and the bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster.
