Permalink Tailpiece and bridge for a 12 string build

New Topic

I'm slowly sourcing the parts for a Jazzmaster XII/Janglemaster build.

I've been reading I can use a standard jazzmaster floating style bridge fine but what should I use for a tailpiece? I reckon using a standard tremolo would send the guitar horribly out of tune.

Or would I be best off using a Gibson style tune-o-matic style bridge/tailpiece?

Gotoh 12-string Bridge

This one is all I know of, for building a 12-string electric.

I would recommend a Strat XII bridge/tailpiece assembly if you plan to go without vibrato. The XII setup gives you intonatiom adjustments on all twelve strings, and through the body loading.

I ended up getting a 12 string tailpiece custom cut for a jazzmaster body.

New question: should I get the Curtis Novak 12 string pickups for authenticity or go for the new AVRI 65' soap bar pickups?

Edit: I'm going to be using a standard jazzmaster floating bridge. I hear they work fine for a 12 string build.

Wow, that thing is cool! The front of those slots look sharp so you might need to smooth those out if strings start to break there.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

Gonna go with the AVRI 65' pickups.

Almost $150 cheaper than novak pickups and it will be easier to route the body.

Is it me, or will it look somewhat like a Fender Electric XII?

Yep! Going for the Electric XII look.

Buying warmoth body and neck. Shoreline gold jazzmaster body and a 65' hockey stick neck.

Deciding how flash I want to get the neck. Debating if I want to spend the extra $ to have them do a matching headstock with binding. Dilemmas.
