Hope I'm not embarrassing Michael too much by posting this here. I thought this was a really cool performance and I really enjoyed reading his answer to my question in the comments.

Very impressive, Mike! After the performance, I especially liked the technical description of how Mike made the recording. Lots of very useful information.

Well-done, Mike!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Nice job on One of my favorite tunes!

Top notch. Your videos get better and better - really enjoyed it.

Mike's videos are always so good. He's such a solid player!

Makes me wonder if El Mirage is still going? I really loved them at Instro Summit last year!

Much respect to you Mike.
You deserve to drive west on the 64 to Siler City and get you a burger at Johnson's, just past the 421 on the left, right where Raleigh St cuts off. Go early 11:30 so you don't have to wait.

Damn am I jonesing for one of those burgers.

Great job Mike!

Fantastic! You really captured the tone, too, which is not so easy.

Now, what about that Marshall stack in the corner??!! RAWK!!! Headbang

I always enjoy Mike's vids very much. He always picks great songs and makes very nice videos.

Any song played by Takeshi Terauchi is really challenging to cover. Takeshi's approach and technique to playing melodies on the guitar is the same as if he were playing the shamisen (that funny traditional Japanese banjo), and that fast, powerful and percusive sound is really hard to get if you do not play the guitar with that weird shamisen technique.

Congrats Mike!! mission accomplished!!

Whoa, this is awesome, Mike! Deft playing and high-production value as always! It's obvious you've been consumed by this project, as evidenced by you not even having time to shave. Smile

I know Jamie was asking Mike the question, but figure it's okay to chime-in. Yes, El Mirage is still very much a going concern for all involved. Our rehearsal/gig schedule is not as frequent as we would like, but it gives us all a chance to balance family, work, and other commitments.

Needless to say, Mike sets the bar really high for the amount of woodshedding we all aspire to, to make rehearsals as productive as possible. It's always a blast when we do get together!

Matter of fact we just added a show to the calendar for Saturday, June 7th in Pittsboro, NC. Oh, and folks heading to the Summit can catch our bass player extraordinaire, Jamie McClendon as he fronts his incredible band Dom Casual (making their Summit debut).

Great to hear, Murph!!

Wonderful! And the good technical notes are a delight. So many people stop with an ill conceived title end in wmv. I'm amazed at the video. And I know how hard it is to sync video and audio from several clips (or even one on one) in Adobe Premiere. Or at least Premier Elements.

That was awesome Mike. Now I have a persistent earworm. Big Grin

CUTBACK

No embarrassment at all, Brian! Thanks so much for the really kind comments and for the interest, folks- I know there are A LOT of other music vids out there (which is really why I don't bother to publicize these too much), so I really do appreciate this kind of feedback... it means more to me than you can know.

And like Murph said, the "hot house flower of surf" (at least I think that's what Crispy called us, haha) is still doing a couple shows a year, and having a blast doing it. We hope to be able to perform at another Summit in the future!

Nice!
You really dialed in the tone!

Is that Mosrite a reissue? The trem looks kinda vintage but the guitar looks pristine.

It's one of those Kurokumo (Black Cloud) "Excellent" reissues from around 2000, which is supposedly a pretty faithful reproduction of the 65's (I've never played a real one, though). It was actually the one Zak played in the Treblemakers and I think it was in about half of the recordings for that unreleased "Epileptic Ladyland" album from 2009. It's not exactly pristine though; there's a few dings and chips in the body and headstock, that he recently told me were caused by "collisions with the Farfisa and Paul's Mosrite bass", but it still sounds and plays pretty killer.

Hahahaha... you spotted the heavy rig! It's a Marshall JCM800 2203X and 1960AV/1960BV stack, a pretty close reissue of the 1981 model... only 6 dials that go up to "11", and no reverb! OMG To my knowledge, the only difference in this modern version is the addition of an effects loop, which wasn't an available option back then, but it sounds just like the one my friend had that I sometimes got to play through in the 80's, it's just ungodly loud. That and the LP Custom next to it was my dream rig as a 13-year-old, so I'm really pinching myself finally having these 30 years later! Headbang

Ataboy! Well done, homie!

Seems I missed you sneaking The Savage in there a lil while ago too. Thumbs Up

El Mirage @ ReverbNation

I have a Super Excellent from around that era early 2000's I think. Not sure what the difference is between a super excellent and a regular excellent, but the trem and knobs look a little different.
It is a great guitar! I've been playing it live a little more often recently, I may bring it to the Instro Summit.
