I saw an interview with Hank Marvin where he talked about using two delays daisy chained together to get that shimmering sound of his. Hah, found it on-line http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhm3w45-o3I&feature=related You might also get some mileage out of this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJKvI4kP0bQ Enjoy, Last edited: Mar 09, 2014 14:41:47 |

It helps to have a delay that has some multi-tap options like a TC Electronics Nova Delay Or Repeater or similar to get the Hank Marvin thing. http://www.facebook.com/CrazyAcesMusic |

That's a superb description for a basic "at the hop/school-dance at the gym" type of thing. I have an old analog delay pedal that I refuse to part with, setup just like that, and that's all it does. But that little bit of slap does a whole lot more than the sum of its parts. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

The Zoom 508 Delay is a nice unit to recreate the Shadows echoes. There are a couple of pages providing the settings for this delay, eg: Hope that helps. I own a 508 and I can confirm that these settings are spot on for that typical Shadows delay sound. —Last edited: Oct 01, 2014 15:14:34 |

I think this pedal does a good job of adding a short delay or slap back echo to a nicely reverberated sound. https://kingpelican.bandcamp.com/ Last edited: Oct 02, 2014 00:22:42 |

Thanks Jake for the Strymon link; interesting. Being a non-gigging budget operation I played with a little Behringer echo unit (direct Echopark clone); their QC seems to be pretty good & maybe their satellite operation at the China build location helped. It's got some decent multi-tap options that can help approximate Shadows stuff, although nothing like a Zoom. (Download the Line 6 Echo Park manual, the Behringer's is in Chinglish and not as readable grammatically. Both require experimentation.) The one thing I wish all units had that my old Analog delay has is a front-panel switch to simply select whether the 2nd output is dry/direct or also blends the signal. But a good traditional slap-back from the delay or some short echo that yields triplets, with a tap-tempo capability is pretty cool and fills things out nicely. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

Hey Ernest, how is the Ghost Echo overall? I was watching some demos the other day and it had a nice sparkly quality to it. If you're looking for a budget slapback echo, the Danelectro Fab Echo is pretty cheap and sounds excellent. Good if you have a higher end delay that you can couple it with and you'll be Apache'ing in no time. |

I have the Catalinbread Echorec. I'm not sure that I'm sold on it, as it's VERY difficult to dial in a consistent setting. The selector knob doesn't have detents and there are multiple settings on the pedal. It sounds good, but if you can't easily dial in the sound you want, it's kind of pointless. FWIW, I prefer delay over reverb (did I just say that?) but it's easier to get a great reverb sound than a useable delay. — |
