Definitely going to tune in for this! Los Relampagos are almost completely unknown in the USA, which is a damn shame - they were simply incredible. A Spanish band from the early-to-mid '60s, combining the Euro-instro rock & roll with Spanish/flamenco and classical influences, the music they created was utterly unique, and often remarkable. I was turned on to them by Mark Huber, a huge fan of theirs from New Orleans, who decided to put together a tribute album with him on rhythm guitar, joined by a bunch of modern surf musicians. He self-released the resulting album, titled New World Relampagos, which featured Dusty Watson on drums and Sam Bolle of bass (I believe on all the tracks), and even more notably, the absolutely incredible original organist Pablo Herrero and even the original guitarist Jose Louis Armenteros on a couple of tracks! I ended up playing lead guitar on all but 2 or 3 of the tracks, and that was just a BLAST! Mark has kinda dropped off the face of the earth, haven't spoken to him in a long time. He moved to somewhere on the West Coast, so is no longer in New Orleans. The CD is not so easy to find anymore, but Amazon still has some second hand copies available.

Looking forward to the show!

That tribute is a Must have cd for sure.
Alfredo from the Longboards burned a bunch
Of the original stuff for me onto cdr.
But it is in mp3 format.
The computer disc drive is dead,
And all the CD players I have don't
Play mp3 format.
So I've never been able to listen to them.

Listening now! One thing, though, Mr. El Bumper, I was in the Space Cossacks for four years fourteen years ago. I've been in the Madeira for the past 10 years. Just FYI.

Thanks for playing "Hay quien dice de Jaen" - one of my very favorites by them! "Danza Del Fuego" is also amazing, love it!
I meant to do this earlied, but it slipped my mind - just thought I'd post both of these songs here. "Hay Quien Dice de Jaen" is like a perfect mix of flamenco and rock instro - so good! And Danza Del Fuego is supremely spooky. (We actually recorded that one for the New World Relampagos project, but licensing issues prevented it from being released.)

I'm intrigued to know how many people can actually manage to listen to a whole hour of the same tune. I'd also like to know which version people like the most.

^^^^^^^^ I have a folder with 37 covers of "fly me to the moon". Occasionally I listen to it. My wife would leave the room after about the 3rd version.

I wanna hear the versions I haven't heard before.
I hope I can last the whole show.

16 versions of Apache should be pretty easy for you then (if not for your wife!).

Yeah. Let me know how much of an endurance test it is for you, Jeff. No Apache in next week's show, I promise.
