Permalink Bass Versus Toms

New Topic

Whenever my drummer rolls on the toms the loud low frequencies drown out my bass - so I amp up my volume (which I don't really want to do) otherwise I can't hear what I am playing.

Am I the only surf bassist with this problem? My hearing is pretty good. Is there some sort of technique my drummer could use to tone down the volume of his toms?

There are mufflers in the toms he could use if they haven't been removed. There is the duct tape cotton ball solution that could be taped on to the drum heads. He could try the heavier weight heads as well.More plys in the head the deader they sound . Lighter sticks and softer attack ..There is some stuff called Moon gel that are sticky pads for heads , that's more for ringing over tone issues though.Hope that helps a bit.
