Permalink Surf piped through PA ?

New Topic

I'm new to the surf arena and am curious if its common adding surf and/or Hotrod sounds through a PA at certain points during a song/show. Would this be considered cheesy/corny or creative? I would think from the point of view of the audience it would add something if not overdone. All opinions welcome, just trying to put something interesting together for this upcoming summer, long winter here in Northeast.

I suppose it's all in the way you pull it off – that's where the art comes in. Surf/hotrod instro can be easily dismissed if it's not played convincingly or shoddily, with or without sound effects. Maybe better than generic or typical sound effects, the addition of odd ones might evoke an interesting sensation or thought. Nature sounds, movie dialog, sounds of traffic or speech ...they don't have to strive for 'realism' or literalism to be effective.

Squink Out!

It can work if you plan it out well. My band uses a sampler and either go through the PA or our own sampler amp.
We use it for movie samples, and for voice overs/announcements ( we don't talk during the show ).

Psycho surfabilly!
