To clear things up, I in no way meant what I posted. It was a joke on prudes.

I truly appreciate our vets... My dad was in the Marines for years, and while I'm not able to join up, I greatly appreciate those who can. Service is difficult, but it's a great honor to those who have the ability and the will to go.

Also, my regrets and sympathies out to those lost or suffering for PTSD. This day is for those.

And Prudes is not the correct word for those who are anti-war or don't support the United States latest forays into world peace. Nobody that is anti-war is anti-Veteran's. Our Government makes that choice, not the men and women that serve. The men and women that serve do so to protect, to better themselves/their skills, and to join a family/community.

I wasn't saying that they were. Simply, when there's a celebration, there's often someone who disaagrees or is offended that brings it down...

Bob,
That is cool. Gave Dad a guitar with his name on it!

preston you stepped in it this time. alot of vets went in by choice and alot were drafted. they all made the CHOICE to stay in the service and do whatever they were told. when one goes in the service, he has essentially given up his choice to do whatever he wants. they have pledged themselves to a team and a cause higher than themselves.

That generation was amazing. The dedication to duty dumbfounds me. My sister was in the FBI and pulled my father's file. Discovered he served in the OSS. We asked him why he never mentioned that. His response was they told him never to tell anyone.

During WW II what theater was your father in, the European or Pacific?

Since my family has been in America, at least one person of each generation has gone to war. Including myself. Luckily we all made it home, but home is never the same, because you're never the same. That is the sacrifice all of us veterans have made. Some have made greater sacrifices... Some have made the greatest sacrifice.

That is what we honor today. Not politics. Not war. Certainly not fairness. We honor sacrifice.

Some things just shouldn't be joked about. But that's more a matter of taste than of principle. You are certainly free to say what you will. Just remember the sacrifices made by others to ensure that right.

Happy Veterans Day to my fellow vets.

To me it is not exactly the sacrifice, although I agree the vets have made that sacrifice. To me it is the willing to endure that sacrifice on behalf of others that makes Vets so special. Happy Veterans Day to you.

You're exactly right. We do it for others. To me that goes without saying. I mean, we certainly don't go through all that shite because it's fun.

Cheers !

While with the Guard, were you ever at the armory outside Shelbyville? That is pretty close to home.

Norm

I was at the Shelbyville armory for all but my first year in the Guard (was at the Connersville armory my first year).

Fast Cars & Loud Guitars!

Normj, my dad was in the pacific theater. he flew out of Vancouver. belly gunner in a PV-1 was not a great job. anti-sub patrol and long range stuff. never mentioned any action. never talked about it. he was 16 when he joined the navy. i think he lied about his age to the recruiter. duty was very important to those guys, you don't see much of that now.

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

I was wondering how long it would take someone to foul up this thread.
Unbelievable. That was not cool at all. Look down at that guitar in your hands and think about why you are allowed to own it and why you can be online to even talk about it. Whatever

My father served in Vietnam and still cries to this day when the subject is brought up. Thank you, Dad, and all the others who enlisted (or were drafted) and served our country. We owe everything we have to people like you.

Thank you, Norm. I will do that.

Another Veteran's Day has come around. There are a lot of veterans on here, or people with family who are. My son is in the Navy now. To all those who've served in our Armed Forces, my most heart-felt "Thank You!"

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Just got word that daughter is coming home for Thanksgiving, then finish up her final leave before retiring from what turned out to be a career in the Army. Looking back at my own career, and reflecting on hers and where she's been, you cannot believe how fast time goes by in many areas. ("This is the little girl that embarked on her own 20 years ago?!?!")

Henry will be at a crossroads before you know it and you're gonna shake your head & smile and say "wow" just like every other dad, at the person they've become.

Best wishes to Henry and, from one to any others here, Salud to everyone who stepped up for whatever reason, called or because of a calling.

Have a very Surf Day.
(and to my Marine compadres a belated Happy Birthday!)
