My sentiments also. I too thank you for all you have done. I will extend that to all our relatives who have served. Some of us have parents who served in WW II or brothers who served in Vietnam. To all who serve, I thank you.

While with the Guard, were you ever at the armory outside Shelbyville? That is pretty close to home.

I think this post is unfair to those who do not agree with the actions of the US military. Those men and women cannot express their views here without feeling left out or unwanted, and the conversation is liable to become political.

Kidding. Happy veterans day! Thanks out to all our veterans.

IMO.

That is why it is Veteran's Day! It is not Armed Forces, or America's Big Stick day. It is about the people who have served in war or sacrificed something for the country. Not everyone has had a choice in that manner.

It was a joke, hence the smiley. I really need to work on those. Wink

IMO.

Don't use emoticons. Say what you mean. Smileys could mean way too many things. Much safer that way!

Gah. Fuck jokes. No more jokes.

IMO.

Life is unfair.
I have not served but I have much respect for my late father who as a 17 year old enlisted in the Marines and soon found himself on Saipan and Iwo Jima. I never heard him speak of it until he was near the end of his life. People like him need to be remembered and honored.

Edited my post. Sorry for the misleading joke.

It is not fair that a 17 year old kid must endure the horrors Saipan and Iwo Jima. Similarly, my 95 year old father survived Scarlet Beach, Corregidor, Leykte, Luzon and Nagaski. He is now afflicted with dementia and relives those. It is not fair that young men must endure such. But thank God they were willing to make the sacrifice.

Norm

I did 4 years in the military during the Viet Nam war but was very fortunate to have had no first hand experience with combat.

Like Norm's Dad, my Dad experienced the horrors of WWII and never mentioned much about it until he was near death at which time he told us a few stories that only gave us a hint of what he must have gone through.

preston you stepped in it this time. alot of vets went in by choice and alot were drafted. they all made the CHOICE to stay in the service and do whatever they were told. when one goes in the service, he has essentially given up his choice to do whatever he wants. they have pledged themselves to a team and a cause higher than themselves. it's hard to understand it if you haven't been there or been around the life of a serviceman. my dad was in WWII as a belly gunner in a PV-1 - that's a navy patrol bomber for those that don't know. he joined the marines during the korean war after both my uncles joined. one uncle was killed and the other uncle had to fly home with the body. dad ended up going to NAM in the late 60's and never really talked about it. i grew up moving from base to base as dad got transferred around. i was and still am so proud of dad and my uncles. i thought my dad was so cool--he was my hero!!!!!! so are the vets and i take care of the vets on my mail route. i make sure they get their meds and whatever else they need!!! they deserve it----kid be careful with the jokes. this business is serious, not the stuff for bad jokes. just in case no one ever told you!!!!

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

I believe Preston now understands some things aren't proper subjects for joking around.

To clear things up, I in no way meant what I posted. It was a joke on prudes.

I truly appreciate our vets... My dad was in the Marines for years, and while I'm not able to join up, I greatly appreciate those who can. Service is difficult, but it's a great honor to those who have the ability and the will to go.

Also, my regrets and sympathies out to those lost or suffering for PTSD. This day is for those.

IMO.

Thank God for veterans. It's because of their service that we have our freedoms today. They really do deserve our honor & respect. Here is a photo of my favorite veteran (my father, Bob Sr.) holding the Tele I built for his 64th birthday a few years ago. I am lucky I still have him. He has made me the man & father I am today.
