I just played one of these at a rehearsal last night. Love that tremolo.

Any of you VVRI owners run your Vibroverbs through an external cab? (Essentially bypassing the 2x10's and using the Vibro as a "head") If so, how does it sound? I'm looking at running a VV through a 2 x 12 cab, but not sure if closed back or open back is the way to go.

The reason for my question is I locally came across a closed back Supersonic 60 2x12 cab for a decently low price. The only thing I'm iffy on is it has Celestion V30's in it. Not sure if the VV would sound good or bad through this configuration.

I haven't done it, but I can try it. I think it would sound good!

I actually recorded both Mystery Men? releases this way. Ran the amp into a 2x15 cab with Eminence Legend 151s (that I really adore). I think it sounds fantastic! Click the link in my signature to hear it on our bandcamp, Spotify or CD Baby page.

I LOVE Celestion Vintage 10's in my Vibroverb so a closed back with V30's would sound HUGE

Holy crap, Ivan! Now THAT's a set up and sounds like loads of fun to play through!

So the Supersonic cab's V30's would be okay to play through with the VV? I'm guessing with the closed back, the sound would really be projected and deliver some bottom end. But wasn't sure if it'd be a no-no for the surf tone to use those Celestions.

It'll be fat, punchy and loud... won't have the springyness of American speakers but in my experience V30's stay pretty clean and project the character of the amp.

Yay! I figured it was breaking up early because of the high output single coil pickups my strat has... rolled down the volume and it sounds WONDERFUL even with the stock Oxfords. But I will definitely upgrade them soon!

That amp is in exceptionally good condition. And for $950, you did very well, my friend. Again, congrats on the score.

-Cheers, Clark-

-Less Paul, more Reverb-

Wow, that's a closet classic! Nice score.

Thanks guys! Just to confirm, the VV wants to see a 4 ohm load for an extension cab, correct?

Correct, usually two 8ohm speakers in parallel

The Del-Vipers

Any Vibroverb owners here using JJ or Electro Harmonix 6L6 power tubes and are satisfied with your tone? I know a few of you guys really like the Winged C's, but the cost of those are hard to justify at the moment. Any "off-the-shelf" brands you guys can recommend that can be picked up at the local music store?

This Vibroverb belongs to Jimbo from The Gillbillies. It's his main amp, and they play a lot (as you can see.) They look like a ZZ top cover band, but they play all surf instrumentals, though in a pretty heavy style. And, fun fact, Jimbo and the bass player toured as the backing band for the Itals for many years.

I came across this beauty in the wild last week. This Vibroverb belongs to Art, the owner of MuSick recordings. He brought it to the Barkley for the Italian ban Wave Electric to use. It sounded fantastic!

Art owns a Vibroverb?? Wow. Looks so clean!

Here is mine. Don’t have the serial handy. Loaded with a Weber 10F150 and an Eminence Copperhead. It had a Ragin’ Cajun prior to the Copperhead, but I found it was drowning out the Weber too much. (The Cajuns are pretty loud for 10”!) Used this VVRI on a few songs on “1961”. Most notably can be heard on “The Heat”.

This may be sacrilegious to some, but I wanted mine to match my blonde reverb unit, so I did this to it:

I kept the original cabinet, so everything can go back to stock form if need be.

That’s not sacrilegious, it’s practical. Both my tremolux and bandmaster are in combo cabs with their original cabinets safe in the closet where they won’t take the beating of load-ins and outs. Not to mention that you can have whatever aesthetic you want for your setup that way. Now, if you retolexed an original vintage amp in good condition, that would be a different story.
