i think the deal on the strings through body are because alot of people preferred and modified the 51 to have string through body to be more like the telly sustain another guitar tone mystery to debunk but people will still do it and buy string through body guitars.

This is a quote from another forum regarding the neck
Do they have the same great fat necks as the originals? I still have my $69 blackie Squier '51, all stock, and the neck from another one is on a CV50 body (that neck now has a bone nut, Gotoh vintage tuners & Fender decal - yes, shame on me). The frets seem like SS, barely any wear. LOVE these necks!

Heres another quote
Yes, the originals were basswood, though someone claimed that it was a peculiarly soft basswood. Maybe the new, pricier ones will rate a higher grade of basswood... maybe?
And yes, the necks were great on those originals. Worth the price by themselves. It was the biggest thing they got wrong on the Fender version, and hopefully, they've put it right again on these.

That guy has been trying to sell that "Vintage...1st Year...Super Rare..." blonde 51 for that price forever.
I think basswood varies a lot in density. I had a basswood guitar once that, while one of my favorites, dinged if you looked at it real hard. My white MIJ Jazzmaster is also basswood (unless I'm mistaken) and isn't nearly as fragile.
I also would've assumed that both the Squier and Fender Japan 51's necks were just Telecaster necks with different decals. Why tool up for another neck shape for $150 guitar? I thought if you found any Affinity Telecaster from the same era as the original 51's that it'd be exactly the same neck.

Those pickguards look badass, Palo. I wonder if I could find one in purple like my school colors. That one modded with an ashtray looks nice, I've never seen one in blue. It has to be a respray.

That is really weird, I also thought it was just a regular ole' Tele neck. I don't understand why Fender always has to overly complicate things and differentiate and change stuff so much that year X is vastly different than year X+1. I understand it makes things change in value and etc but still, it's hard enough keeping MIJ, MIA, and MIM gear apart with all the differences. I thought the best part about Fenders was that they were pretty modular. :/

Thiers alot of guitars that have fatter necks but it seems a little fatter
than most squiers though.
fender japan 51 is different than the 51 squier crafted in indonesia fur sure.
i had a 52 ri telecaster and that neck seemed alot thicker but thats a usa
guitar.
I never had an infinity so i don't know how the neck compares with that.
kian yeah that blue is a respray.
I guess i like basswood.
